College and School Counselor (Leave Replacement)

Dates: August 2024 to June 2025

St. Joseph High School in Trumbull, Connecticut seeks a full-time School Counselor (Leave Replacement) from August 26, 2024 to June 30, 2025. The successful candidate will report to the Director of School Counseling and will work as a team with other school counselors and the social worker to perform all the duties and responsibilities of this position. The successful candidate will assist students in grades 10-12 in developing executive and cognitive strategies for academic success; employing intrapersonal and interpersonal skills to improve relationships; exploring career options and applying to postsecondary institutions. This position requires outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, an upbeat and positive attitude, the ability to multitask, and will embrace our Catholic tradition.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Teach developmental school counseling lessons to students in grades 10-12 and meet individually with students on the assigned caseload several times throughout the school year.

• Monitor student grades, track data and intervene when necessary by working with faculty, students, administrators and parents.

• Assist with student accommodation plans and serve as an advocate for students with faculty, administration, and parents.

• Implement the ASCA School Counseling Framework of academic, social-emotional, career and college counseling.

• Collaborate on effective programming for our community and work closely with our school counseling team, including our social worker, on workshops, presentations, and webinar sessions.

• Serve as a member of key student-centered intervention teams to identify potential barriers to student success and implement agreed-upon strategies to increase student achievement.

• Participate in professional development to enhance knowledge as a school counselor.

Qualifications:

• Master's Degree in counselor education, school counseling or a related field.

• Familiarity with Google Suite and school counseling software (SCOIR, Naviance, BlackBaud, etc)

• Knowledge of solution-focused counseling, dialectical behavior coaching and cognitive-behavioral interventions
