School Counselor

Job Description:

Available: Permanent position available with the 2024-2025 school year with some possible summer hours. Official start date will be August 26, 2024.

Salary/Benefits: In accordance with the Easton Education Association collective bargaining agreement. Comprehensive benefits.

Requirements/Qualifications:

• Connecticut Certification as a School Counselor

• Master's Degree in School Counseling from an accredited college or university

• Understanding and skills in applying restorative practices

• Strong understanding of adolescent development

• Experience in counseling students, including in crisis situations

• Ability to tailor academic and behavioral interventions to meet individual student needs

• Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills

• Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times

• Ability to interpret tests, student data and other appraisal results appropriately in the counseling environment

• Is skillful at using the Google Suite of programs and Microsoft Excel to collect and analyze data

• Adheres to ethical practices of the state and national professional counseling associations

• Adheres to all Board of Education policies and procedures

• Knowledge of a wide variety of appraisal instruments and techniques to enhance decision making and planning

Essential Functions:

• Provides Multi-Tiered Systems of Support - social-emotional-behavioral and academic interventions

• Collaborates with parents, administration, school support team, and teachers to develop individualized academic and behavioral plans

• Works with students to establish academic goals, including goals related to homework completion, attendance and behavior

• Uses evidence-based data collection system to monitor student growth

• Facilitates lunch groups for students based upon needs

• Works on transition teams for students entering and exiting Helen Keller Middle School

• Serves as case manager for students with 504 plans

• Works closely with special education teachers when students are referred for special services/testing

• Conducts goal oriented counseling sessions (individual and group sessions)

• Makes appropriate referrals to specialists

• Provides intervention/support in crisis situations

• Other duties as assigned
