Position OverviewThe Charter School of Educational Excellence is seeking a dynamic School Counselor to promote success, provide preventive services, and respond to identified student needs by implementing a comprehensive school counseling program that addresses academic, emotional, behavioral and social development for all students. Our school counselor collaborates with the parents, teachers, other school personnel, outside agencies and the community to modify those aspects of the environment which interfere with positive school adjustments and healthy development for students.Responsibilities & duties (including, but not limited to)• Conduct evaluation sessions with the students using interviews, counselling sessions, interest and aptitude assessment tests, and other methods to evaluate and advise students, guardians, parents, and teachers• Counsel individuals to help them understand and overcome personal, social, and/or behavioural problems affecting their educational, physical, social and/or emotional situation• Provide direct intervention and counselling to students on demand and in crisis situations. Empathically listen to student concerns, assess situation, and plan goals and actions• Help students prepare for their transition to the next grade level• Consult with and serve as a resource for students, guardians, parents, and teachers regarding the developmental needs of students, including determining priorities for students and their resource needs• Collaborate with school staff and administrators to ensure that students are academically on grade level• Complete written reports as needed or as requested by Principal• Maintain accurate and complete student records as required by laws, district policies, and administrative regulations• Participate in the integration, evaluation and revision of the school guidance program and curriculum• Attend meetings, conferences, and in-service trainings to keep abreast of best practices and professional trends• Identify cases of domestic abuse or other family problems and encourage students, guardians or parents to seek additional assistance from CSEE administration and/or outside professionals• Provide special services that teach students how to handle conflicts in their environment• Conduct follow-up interviews with external counsellors to determine if their needs have been met• Perform other duties as assigned Student Assessment- Measure student achievement and progress towards learning objectives using the school's formative and summative assessment toolsEvaluate academic achievement through detailed data analysis of student performance on a wide variety of metricsProvide ongoing and timely feedback to students on their progress towards meeting expectations and achieving goalsSchedule the parent meetings, write up the parent survey and find parent-training tools.Schedule the annual review meeting, coordinates the meeting, and communicates with parents regarding its resultsCompletes all reports in a timely manner Student and Extracurricular Activities- Organize and supervise approved field tripsProvide opportunities and supervise activities in order for students to demonstrate individually and in ensembles or large groups the skills and talents developed Student Support & School Culture- Communicate effectively and maintain strong relationships with students, families, colleagues and administratorsEstablish, involve, and assist students in the development, maintenance and evaluation of portfoliosDevelop and use rubrics for evaluating student products and performancesObserve and evaluate the performance of each student and use assessment methods to judge overall progressOversee and assist with student arrival/dismissalOther tasks as assigned by the PrincipalAcademic & certification qualificationsMaster's degree in school counselling or related field required3+ years' experience as a School CounsellorNew York State Counsellor Certification preferredWork experience & skillsSpanish language proficiency preferredA passion for the mission of the Charter School of Educational ExcellenceMust have strong organizational and communication skills, verbal and writtenAble to work with parents, students, faculty, support staff, external government representatives, as well as school community groupsUnderstanding of different student maturity levelsAbility to help students gain awareness of their interests and abilities and to help them manage their behaviour and thinking processesUnderstanding of test construction and ability to interpret educational test dataKnowledge of grade test targetsAbility to evaluate student transcriptsAbility to plan, organize, and implement meetings involving a variety of topics and personnelAbility to travel between the ES/MS and the HS sites as necessary. Both sites are located within walking distanceRequired to take multiple trips up and down the stairs in a day, and be able to move quickly in an emergencyRequired to be able to lift up to 15 poundsAble to work independently in a fast paced environmentAble to prepare and deliver oral presentationsDemonstrated ability in utilizing office equipment and software such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).CompensationA competitive compensation package including base salary and complete benefits is available.
