The STAMFORD SCHOOL, serving the students & families of Stamford, Vermont, is seeking a motivated, creative, organized, and multi-talented superhero to serve as School Counselor. The individual in this position plays an integral role in the daily operations of our schools and plays an important part in supporting our amazing students, teachers and families. The counselor position is a two day/week position, but may be paired with a vacant counselor position elsewhere in the WSWSU, or other vacancy at the Stamford School to provide additional employment.
Our small school is located on the Massachusetts border about 15 minutes from North Adams, Massachusetts and about 30 minutes from Bennington, Vermont, and has 6 classrooms (preK, Kindergarten, grades 1 & 2, grades 3 & 4, grades 5 & 6, and grades 7 & 8) of 11-16 students per class. We have a total enrollment of about 75 students preK-8th grade.
The Guidance Counselor supports all students across all grades and settings. The successful candidate will have experience working with students who possess a wide range of social/emotional strengths and challenges. The ideal candidate will possess good communication and collaboration skills, the ability to remain flexible and pivot direction and duties as needed, and the ability to establish a positive rapport with students, staff and families alike.
Essential Functions:
Teach weekly lessons to each class with the focus of social emotional learning
Conduct counseling sessions with individual students concerning academic, personal, emotional, social, classroom-related, and family-related frustrations and problems.
Meet with small groups of students to provide counseling in such areas as: developing self-confidence, understanding others, acting responsibly, making decisions, learning to resolve personal problems, and understanding personal development.
Act as a resource in the referral and IEP development process and attend meetings as needed.
May also lead or collaborate with key staff on the following special endeavors to create amazing experiences for our students:
Coordinate guest and community speakers;
Facilitate peer-to-peer tutoring.
Coordinate other special student activities
Coordinate activities of contracted mental health services when needed
Perform daily duties such as lunch coverage and/or recess

Candidates must have or be eligible for appropriate Vermont licensure as a Guidance Counselor (3-64) or eligible for provisional licensure.
