Student Behavior/Academic Support Specialist - 1.0 FTE

2024-2025 Salary Range:  $46,813 - $68,815 or appropriate placement on salary schedule.  Benefits available.

Job Description:

Work with the administration and intervention team to address the whole child.  Develop and implement systems and structures to remediate behavioral and social struggles for students. Serve as a consultant to school personnel and parents.  Work with a team to develop and implement behavior intervention plans to address executive functioning and conflict resolution deficits for general education students.  Work with school administration to address behavioral issues and assign/follow up on appropriate disciplinary action for behavioral infractions when necessary.

  • Consistent presence before, during, and after school duties.

  • Consistent presence during all three lunch blocks.This position will serve as the daily supervisor for each lunch/recess block responding to behavior and safety needs on the spot.

  • Increase the timely response and effectiveness of responding to RTA’s and TAD’s (Tier I & Tier II).

  • This position will respond to all RTA’s and support teachers with TAD’s.

  • This position will transfer the RTA’s to AP when suspension, safe student processes, and/or safety planning is needed.

  • Increase the timely information gathering and investigation response of the Safe Student Process (Bullying and Harassment Response Protocol).

  • Work as a member of the attendance response team in a proactive manner to decrease chronic absenteeism.

  • Serve as a resource to the teachers and as a member of the school-wide teams with a focus on social, emotional and behavioral learning.

  • Assist in the coordination and implementation of emergency drills and procedures.

  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the building administrative team.

Qualifications:

1.Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution

2.Valid Montana Educator's Certificate in Education, Behavioral Modification and/or any exceptional student education area like School Psychologist, or Guidance/Counseling or ability to be certified by the start of the 2024-2025 school year.

Preferred Qualifications:

1.Master's degree from an accredited institution in School Administration, Counseling, Behavior Analysis, Clinical Psychology, Behavior Psychology, Social Work or related field

2.Graduate work beyond the Master's degree

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Communicate effectively in written and oral form using positive interpersonal skills

  • Ability to develop and implement behavior intervention plans, classroom management systems, and reinforcement systems

  • Assist the principal in the overall administration of the school; interpret and enforce school and school district policies and regulations.

  • Ability to evaluate effective instructional strategies and techniques

  • Experience in the development and implementation of effective curricular/learning programs

  • Experience in the development and implementation of progress monitoring systems for academics and behavior

  • Experience in data collection and data analysis

  • Experience with group facilitation and problem-solving strategies

  • Ability to effectively lead/facilitate group processes

  • Ability to assign and follow up on appropriate disciplinary action for behavioral infractions

Experience in the development and implementation of the Pyramid Model (Tier 1, Tier 2, Tier 3 Interventions) in regards to academic and behavior support.

  • Ability to maintain effective professional and positive relationships and communicate with staff, students, parents/guardians, and the community.

  • Works as a team member within the district leadership and management structure and supports decisions made by administration in an effort to maintain positive staff morale.

  • Maintains a visible presence in the building and playground to enforce safety and security standards for students and faculty.

  • Knowledge of state and local policies and laws that refer to student discipline and education.

  • Assists in the leadership, management and administration of the school to include supervision, and the overall positive development of students. Assis

  • Assists in maintaining discipline throughout the student body, and deals with special cases as necessary and as assigned.

  • Provides for the general welfare of all students and handles individual and group problems of student behavior and discipline.

  • Maintains appropriate information about students and compiles necessary records.

  • Demonstrated leadership ability and general knowledge of issues and problems in all aspects of middle school.

  • Skill, dedication, and aptitude for recognizing the development needs of middle school students.

  • Works with administration in  allocation of playground equipment, educational material, and supplies in conformance with approved expenditures.

  • Participates in policy and procedural decisions relevant to student issues.

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from staff, students, parents/guardians and the public.

  • Ability to write reports, school correspondence, manuals or other relevant information.

  • Collects and analyzes data as assigned by the site administrator(s)

  • Supervises preparation of student attendance reports, test results, and other reports as required by the Office of Public Instruction and other agencies.

  • Participates in activities of the school that include parents/guardians, staff, students and the public.

  • Ability to meet a high standard of policies and protocol.

  • Skill in organization to provide effective and efficient administration.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of employment and student matters.

  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Board policies and rules, regulations, and directives.

  • Ability to handle stressful situations.

  • Ability to effectively manage time and responsibilities.
