Job Title: Elementary School Clerk
Reports To: Principal
Approved Date: March 2008
Performs many complex and important clerical operations requiring the exercise of judgment based upon knowledge gained through experience. Make decisions in accordance with established policies. Responsible for finality of action, but more difficult and important work is performed under close supervision.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Assumes the duties of the school secretary during her absence
Receives visitors and directs the flow of traffic to persons involved
Answers the telephone and route calls
Receives mail where applicable or its equivalent
Types various kinds of reports
Handles correspondence referred by the administrator(s)
Assists administrator with preparing expulsion folders for hearings
Maintains a filing system
Maintains proper use of equipment
Assists the Executive School Secretary in day to day duties as needed
Performs other duties as directed by the school principal/site administrator(s)
Checks students in and out of school
Manages and maintains student attendance records
Makes phone calls to parents/guardian at home
Administers (upon completion of training) medication under the supervision per physician orders and parental consent
Administers first aid care
Informs students of bus assignments
Assists with processing of books
Assists in writing order slips for new books
Assist in keeping school accounts
Manages and maintains student records
Schedules parent/teacher student counselor conferences
Essential Functions and Qualifications
The essential functions for the position of School Clerk include the physical and mental involvement requirements noted in this position description in addition to regular reliable attendance given the limited number of employees available to perform the essential functions of this position. It is also essential that the School Clerk be able to follow the directives of superiors in insuring the harmonious operation of the department.
School Clerk - 10 Months
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
High School education or its equivalent. Good knowledge of modern office practices and procedures and of business English and math. Ability to establish and maintain satisfactory
working relationship with school staff and with the public. Effective use of business and/or computer software including the ability to type 25 words per minute.
Ability to read, analyze and interpret scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to inquiries or complaints. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups and the school board.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
