School Based Therapist II

Hourly Wage: $36.11/Regular/Full-Time

Responsible for providing Mental Health Services and Consultation for children and families identified as requiring therapy/counseling services. Coordinates with other key school staff, mental health staff, and/or other collaborative agencies to develop individual treatment plans.

Provides individual and group trauma-informed, evidence-based, mental health interventions to Native youth and their families in the partnering school districts. The school-based therapist will work with their assigned school district to provide evaluations, brief treatment, and other interventions for students. Using evidence-based practices, they will help students develop skills needed to manage their mental health and improve the mental wellbeing of everyone they serve.

Examples of Work Performed:

Build strong relationships with education staff in partnering schools.

Provide training on mental health, trauma, suicide awareness, and substance use to educators.

Work with the School Based Trauma Informed Support Services project director and district staff to develop screening, referral, and treatment systems.

Provide trauma-informed, evidence-based individual and group mental health interventions to students identified at risk for or experiencing a mental health challenge.

Work with the family educator and the behavioral health aid to support Native families.

Meet with public school staff and other professionals to develop individual behavioral plans for children who have been identified as requiring treatment.

Develops and implements treatment plans which focus on client strengths, needs, and goals within the briefest time frame for successful achievement.

Modify treatment activities or approaches as needed to comply with changes in clients' status.

Establish and maintain working relationships with other Tribal Programs as well as relevant non-Tribal programs that could be a potential resource for families.

Participate in Supervision Clinical Staffing's, multi-disciplinary team staffing, School Multi-Disciplinary Team Staffing's, and participate in relevant trainings of Job Description.

Provide services and maintain records to meet level of care standards and agency policies.

Fill out and maintain client-related paperwork, including federal- and state-mandated forms, client diagnostic records, and progress notes.

Maintain monthly billing statements and statistics to complete evaluation criteria as required by contracts. Must maintain a minimum of 50% work hours in billable services hours.

Work with other individuals and families outside school preference as directed by Clinical Supervisor.

Consults and meets with Teachers and Schools as assigned, on a regular basis to evaluate the effectiveness of appropriate therapy techniques for Individual Education Plan.

Coordinate with other healthcare providers, agencies, and community resources in order to create a thorough treatment plan.

Write reports to court, school, or other community agencies as necessary.

Counsel clients or patients, individually or in group sessions, to assist in overcoming dependencies, adjusting to life, or making changes.

May be assigned new projects and tasks not included in the position description, or to assist other Behavioral Health staff as requested by Program Manager and/or Supervisor.

Report activities on weekly activity report.

Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of the basic principles, practices, and professional standards of providing clinical behavioral/mental health services to tribal communities.

Knowledge of completing documentation not limited to treatment plans, assessments and service authorizations.

Ability to make professional evaluations, decisions, and recommendations for treatment planning and implementation.

Knowledge of behavior techniques to modify behaviors of identified children.

Knowledge of Special Education Policies, 504 Plans and Individual Education Plans and contributing as a Professional on behalf of the child.

Knowledge of the Yakama Nation Personnel Policies.

Knowledge and proficiency in computer use.

Knowledge and proficiency in utilizing electronic health record systems.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other department staff, supervisors/managers,

and the public.

Ability to prepare accurate, comprehensive, and detailed reports and correspondence.

Knowledge, Skills, and Ability of documenting in patient medical files, HIPAA laws, medical terminology and EHR standards.

Ability to meet the public and address problems, issues, and complaints tactfully, courteously, and effectively.

Minimum Requirements:

Master's Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, and/or Related Counseling field; or Employee may be considered if in the process of obtaining credential while employed. Candidates may also be considered if they are actively working on completion of a Master's degree in Mental Health, Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, and/or Related Counseling field that leads to DOH licensure.

Must have or be eligible for associate or affiliate status through Washington State Department of Health. A full licensure must be acquired within the time frame established by the Department of Health and Director.

Licenses/Registration: One of the following licenses is acceptable for this position (must apply for within one week of hire if license is not current): Licensed Social Worker Associate Advanced (LSWAA), Licensed Social Worker Associate Independent Clinical (LSWAIC), Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate (LMHCA), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Associate (LMFTA), Agency Affiliated Counselor, Certified Counselor (CL) (CHS Only), Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)/First Aid certification (or obtained within 45 days of employment).

This is a full-time position. It will require some flexing hours as there will be some evening meetings. The position will also require significant travel throughout the Yakama Reservation and out of town.

Must maintain strict confidentiality.

Must pass a pre-employment background check.

Must possess a valid Washington State Driver's License with the ability to obtain a Yakama Nation Driving permit.

Required to pass a pre-employment drug test.

Preferred Requirements:

Two experience providing school-based behavioral health services to Native students and their families.

One year of related clinical experience working with children, families, and other individual's psychosis and/or other behavioral health issues.

Five years of working with Tribal Systems with a proven history of collaborative work.

Job experience that reflects the ability to work with both Tribal and Non-Tribal providers.

Enrolled Yakama Preference, but all qualified applicants are encouraged to apply.
