Details of the position:
The goal of the program is mainstreaming and facilitating classroom participation for learners on the autism spectrum for learners' kindergarten through eighth grade. Instruction is structured and data collection occurs on all behavior IEP goals.
Instructional Assistants work in the schools and IAs are typically where an applicant begins to gain experience working in the schools. The IA position is a good fit for someone with desire to work in the school but currently lacking the experience of doing so. The desired applicant must be available from 8 - 3 p.m. 2-5 days a week as IA's work with students throughout the day and this position is within a school setting. Tuesday and Thursday availability is very desirable.
All IA's are provided with training in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) in order to understand how to support a learner in a classroom setting.
IA Position Distinction (to aid in understanding this position from our other BI school or RBT positions)
Supports student(s) by implementing outlined behavior intervention plans, reinforcement ("reward") systems, and/or use of strategies designed to promote student participation in academic instruction
Student behavior intervention plans address less severe behaviors such as tantrumming, noncompliance, and/or verbal aggression.
Students supported at the IA level are often, but not always, placed in general education classrooms.
Students do not require emergency-based intervention. No training in emergency-based intervention training is needed
Initial training is approximately 12 hours
In-vivo observation and feedback (1-2/month)
Monthly group-format training (2hrs/month)
