SAFREST Resources has partnered with a passionate behavioral health provider located in Lynchburg, VA. They are seeking an LMHP or LMHP-E, licensed mental health counselor or resident in counseling, for a School-Based Clinician role. The School-Based Clinician will conduct Outpatient mental health and substance use therapy to students in the public school system with the opportunity to also provide services in a clinical setting.  The therapist will oversee referrals, complete intakes as needed, and work closely with the case manager, school personnel, and guardians.  Weekly supervision toward licensure, opportunities for training in evidence-based practices, and ability to work with a diverse population included.Benefits:

Required Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree from an accredited college/university in an applicable human services field and licensure in the State of Virginia as a Resident in Counseling, Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Marriage and Family Therapist, Licensed Substance Abuse Treatment Practitioner, or Licensed Clinical Psychologist.
  • One year of relevant program-specific work experience is preferred.

Related Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of evidence-based practices to include but not limited to; Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT); emergency interventions; family, group, and individual therapies; psychosocial education; risk assessments; sex offender treatment; substance abuse interventions; etc.; Knowledge of community mental health and public health in order to provide advocacy and enhance an individual’s treatment and access to community resources; Knowledge of the principles, procedures, techniques, trends, and literature related to mental health, intellectual disabilities and substance abuse; Knowledge of psychiatric/medical medications/treatments.

Willing and available to work modified schedules (weekends, holidays, etc.) as required; Ability to drive and must possess a valid driver’s license. May be called upon to travel to any worksite; transport clients, provide services to clients at other locations. Regular attendance at training and Horizon meetings may require travel to a variety of sites; Ability to participate in and successfully pass behavioral intervention training; includes both verbal de-escalation skills and physical skills techniques to be utilized with consumers as needed.
