Kartini Clinic, an innovative pediatric eating disorder clinic in Portland, OR is looking for an intern to join our team! At Kartini Clinic our mission to help children with all conditions of disordered eating is aided by our talented multidisciplinary team. As an intern in our therapeutic and alternative school setting, you will have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of young children and teens.

This position may be perfect for you if you love kids, thrive in a team environment with a friendly and positive attitude, enjoy connecting with people, and helping young minds to learn. A background in math and STEM subjects would be a plus.

While this is an unpaid internship, being an intern is a great way to gain experience in a competitive field and walk away with exceptional references.

The School Intern will assist with the following,

  • Connecting with, tutoring, and encouraging students

  • Creative ideas during school holidays and summer break

  • Creating curriculum for students, when needed

  • Communicating with and sending information to the students' home schools

Requirements and attributes:

  • Have a bachelor's degree

  • Be well organized

  • Be punctual

  • Be a team player with a positive attitude

  • Having a STEM subject background/competency would be a distinct plus (while not required)

  • Will obtain CPR Certified, once hired

  • Will undergo a background check, once hired

  • Must read our text Give Food A Chance within first month, once hired

This will be a 3-12 month internship, with flexible days and times during the work-week.

Preference is given to applicants who are in the first generation of their families to attend college. For the purposes of these internship opportunities, this is defined as the applicant's parent/guardian has not earned a Bachelor's degree. General Internship Description: Interns will be responsible for completing specifically identified healthcare or systems related projects. The projects will be varied and are based on the needs of the participating departments, health system and communities we serve. Interns will be provided preceptor support along with clearly defined expectations for assigned work. Further details regarding exact departmental responsibilities will be provided after applicant screening process, however the following are some of the areas where we anticipate there to be internship opportunities: * * Human Resources (2 Interns) Interns will support the preparation and delivery of the New Caregiver Experience (NCE), coordination and distribution of information related to BOLI legal poster, and distribution of Tri-Met passes. This would largely involve administrative and coordination support. Also, various project that will require excel or other analytical skills to pull data, review it, provide some preliminary summaries, and then work with our HR team to do some more thoughtful/in-depth analysis. Additional projects may involve data analytics, program coordination, and HR processes. Location: NE Portland * * Nursing Administration The nursing administration intern would work on data traffic/mining for reports, editing, capture/reporting, looking at policies related to nursing. The intern would have the opportunity to work with leaders on time management, explore infrastructure involved in access services. Preferred skills: strong computer background/good in Excel, motivated--up and ready to go in the morning. Location: SW Portland * * Community Teaching Kitchen Community Teaching Kitchen Interns are responsible for building relationships with patients who are screened for food insecurity and/or have chronic health conditions or illnesses deeming them in need of a referral to the teaching kitchen & outpatient nutrition services. Interns support our Patient Navigators by evaluating patient needs and connecting them to resources which include an appointment with the registered dietitian, onsite cooking classes, onsite family market (healthy food pantry) and related resources within the community. Additional duties may include organizing volunteers, arranging for food pick-up, overseeing the food pantry for nutritional food products, networking with community partners, entering referrals into the electronic medical record and scheduling patients for outpatient nutrition services. This role is key to the daily operations of the program and requires a patient centered, trauma informed approach to engagement. Bilingual Spanish/English candidates are preferred. Location: Milwaukie, OR (Providence Milwaukie Hospital) * * Transportation Great opportunity for student interested in urban planning, employee wellness promotion, program management and/or event planning. Skills needed: Vibrant personality, energetic and creative with advance computer skills (excel, notebook, PowerPoint etc.). Location: NE Portland, ability to travel to location within Portland Metro area and work independently required. Hours within the following timeframe: M/T/TH – 9am-2pm. * * Public Relations and Communications The public relations/communications intern will assist with writing and editing stories to inform and inspire Providence employees in their work to improve population health. Interns will also assist with posting stories to the intranet and, possibly, putting together email newsletters. Skills learned or developed will include interviewing, writing and editing; website posting and management; interpersonal communication; project management; and photo coordination, editing and archiving. May also be able to observe or assist with communication measurement and crisis communication. Writing sample required. Location: NE Portland * * Behavioral Health Projects This intern will be working with the Behavioral Health support team and the Well Being Trust to provide project support within the integration of new behavioral health initiatives. This includes working with the Well Being Trust Advisory Board, interfacing with youth volunteers assisting in promoting engagement, board meeting planning and implementation, and coordination between meetings. The intern will also assist the Well Being Trust Board Members in project planning for activities in their local schools and communities. Location: NE Portland * * College Way Program The College Way Program is a being developed to help Providence caregivers in entry level jobs from diverse backgrounds and/or first generation students who want to go back to school with the purpose of moving up within the organization especially in hard to fill positions at Providence. The College Way Intern will help with Providence caregiver scholarship essays, administrative support related to College Way Workshops, Meetings & Information Sessions. The College Way Intern will also maintain resource lists up to date. Location: NE Portland * * New Patient Call Center (Wilsonville) Interns will be responsible for taking initial patient calls, imputing voicemails into epic electronic medical record, and new patient and well child check appointment scheduling. Interns will be expected to answer the phone in a polite, professional and welcoming manner. The intern will should have basic proficiency of Microsoft office products. Proper use of grammar, clear and very patient communication style is a priority. Location: Wilsonville * * School Outreach Coordinator-Career Exploration Events Assist with Career Exploration Events (Career Highlights, Surgical Viewings, and Career Exploration Days) for youth and career seekers in Oregon and parts of Washington. You may also participate in Career Fairs and presentations at local schools/community organizations. Assist with Organization skills workshop, job fairs, attend team meetings, mock interviews, internship interviews. Participate in pre/post set-up of educational events, prepare and update promotional materials, and compile survey data as needed. This position requires strong written and verbal communication skills, ability to travel to school or community organization sites, attention to detail, and the ability to balance/coordinate multiple projects deadlines at once. Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs is a plus (Excel and Word). Location: NE Portland * * School Outreach-Internships and School Affiliations The intern will assist with both our paid internship program (School Outreach Internships) for non-clinical students, and with our Rebels Manager. The internship program work will involve assisting the internship program manager with coordinating meetings, interviews, intern events and working on reports to help with measuring program success. The intern will also have the opportunity to work on our marketing initiatives using social media, department newsletters, etc. The Rebels program is a teen-led, anti-tobacco group that Providence facilitates for high school students. The intern would be assisting the Rebels program manager with creating marketing materials, researching teen smoking and vaping health effects, and assisting with Rebels event. There would also be some data reporting work involved. This position would be a good opportunity for students interested in program management. Emphasis is placed on strong written and verbal communication skills, organization and the ability to balance and coordinate multiple projects and deadlines at once. This position requires someone who is technology savvy and enjoys working with data. Location: NE Portland * Interns will not be providing direct patient care. Less than 20 hours per week. Pay: $15/hr. Non-benefits eligible.
