  • Lead, coach and mentor less experienced teachers in your classroom; model behaviors and provide feedback.

  • Create and tailor lesson plans each week to support our collaboration with local school districts.

  • Collaborate with parents to ensure instruction follows local school district guidelines.

  • Use contemporary teaching methods, including virtual learning, to enhance instruction.

  • Partner and communicate with the Public-School Teachers for the children in their class.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • CPR and First Aid Certification or willingness to obtain

  • Active Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential or willing to obtain

  • Must be physically able to use a computer with basic proficiency, lift a minimum of 40 pounds, and work indoors or outdoors

  • Must be able to assume postures in low levels to allow physical and visual contact with children, see and hear well enough to keep children safe, and engage in physical activity with children

  • Ability to speak, read, and write in English

  • All center staff applicants must meet state specific guidelines for the role

The primary purpose of this position is to provide direct services, instructional support and directly implement a therapeutic behavior management system that provides for consistent, safe and therapeutic management of children who may display aggressive, explosive and externalized behavior. Job duties include but are not limited to the following: * Role modeling. * Counseling at the point of performance. * On the spot decision making. * Crisis intervention. * Language and communication modeling. * Activities of daily living. * Transportation. * Maintaining a home-like atmosphere. This is a full-time position and will be eligible for the full State benefits package including health insurance and retirement. The normal work schedule is Monday - Friday 11:00am - 7:00pm; however flexibility in work schedule may be required to meet organizational needs. Salary Grade: GN05 Recruitment Range: $31,200 - $44,091 Position: 60043529 About the Department of Health and Human Services / Wright School: The NC Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is one of the largest, most complex agencies in the state, with approximately 18,000 employees. In collaboration with its partners, it is responsible for ensuring the health, safety and well-being of all North Carolinians. Wright School, located in Durham, NC is a state-operated residential mental health treatment center for children ages 6 to 12. The twenty-four bed residential program, open Monday through Friday, is organized in three age-based groups with eight children per group. Children learn in self-contained special education classes during the day program. During the evening program, children are taught life skills, social problem-solving skills, and self-regulation skills. The psycho educational treatment process, based on Re-Education principles, is led by Teacher-counselors, and was designed as an alternative to the traditional medical model of child residential mental health treatment. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies To receive credit for all of your work history and credentials, you must list the information on the application form. Qualified candidates must document on the application that they clearly possess all of the following: * Good organizational skills. * Working knowledge of practical application of task analysis and goal setting with students who have variety of psychiatric diagnoses. * Working knowledge of problems and needs of severely emotional and assaultive children and youth with behavioral/emotional disabilities. * Ability to establish rapport and respect without undue resort to physical control and authoritative attitude. * Demonstrated ability to work and plan with clinical staff in assessing child behavior and planning and implementing treatment plans. * Position requires a valid drivers' license. * Ability to obtain and maintain all facility required training, including CPI, CPR, and First Aid. ADA Physical Requirements will be discussed during the interview but include the physical ability in to engage in recreational activities with 6 - 12 year old children. Physical ability to manage disruptive children and youth without harm to students or staff. This is a very active position. Applicant must pass pre-employment physical requirements testing. Management prefers candidates with the following: Outdoor education experience, Scouting experience, Wilderness Camp Experience, Re-Education Experience. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Associates degree in human services or related degree from an appropriately accredited institution; or High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Qualifications As required by facility, CPR certification and listing as a Nurse Aide I or Nurse Aide II by the NC Division of Health Service Regulation required prior to providing direct patient care.
