POSITION SUMMARY

Responsible for the secretarial functions in the Labor and Delivery department. Interacts with patients, visitors, physicians and their office staff, and other hospital personnel in a professional manner.

The Unit Secretary communicates patient information, manually and electronically, to appropriate healthcare providers. Enters patient orders electronically. Prioritizes the flow of patient information to all areas.

Acts as a centralized communication facilitator for the patient care areas. Keeps patient information confidential. Exercises professional judgment in performance of services and maintains demeanor complementary of medical ethics.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Must be able to demonstrate understanding of national patient safety initiatives by strict compliance to all safety protocols and procedures as required by both HCA and St. David's HealthCare.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Education

REQUIRED: High school diploma or GED equivalent.

PREFERRED: College courses in the health related field.

Experience

PREFERRED: Computer skills, 1-2 years college and/or business school, 1 year experience in general office or as a hospital based unit clerk, or a crossed trained PCT I

Special Qualifications

Good grammar, spelling and math skill to perform related clerical and secretarial duties.

Ability to interact with others in a diplomatic and courteous manner on the telephone and in person.

Good communication skills, able to read, write and comprehend medical terminology.

Position Summary: Performs clerical support services such as computer data entry, typing, filing, telephone triage and interfaces with the public on department matters. Schedules outpatients for diagnostic exams, clinic visits and invasive procedures as determined by medical, nursing and research staff. "Arrives patients upon arrival to DVI. Obtain precertification and verification of benefits for ordered studies. Qualifications/Specifications: * Education: High School Diploma required. Some college preferred. * Licensure/Certification: BLS certification required upon hire. * Experience: Admin: Minimum of two years secretarial experience. Medical or hospital setting preferred. PCP: 6 months to 1 year continuous experience in an acute care setting preferred. * Essential Technical/Motor Skills: Ability to perform tasks efficiently. Able to type and use computer efficiently. Advanced computer data entry and report generation using Microsoft Office and other selected software packages. Able to operate various office equipment such as copier, phone system, fax machine, and computer. Ability to manipulate various types of electronic and clinical equipment, adjust and troubleshoot monitoring equipment and computer equipment. * Interpersonal Skills: Ability to communicate in English, both orally and written, with others in a professional, collaborative manner. Ability to interact with staff, physicians, patients, and families in a courteous manner. Requires vertically/horizontally transferring hardware and monitor weighing up to (25 lbs.) from (70") to (70"), up to (6/shift), a distance of up to (150 feet) without mechanical assistance. * Patient Care Partner transfers patient in bed, EKG, pump, wheelchair, meals on cart, crash cart, stretchers, AV cart and other medical equipment. Must horizontally transfer patient requiring a force up to (40 lbs.), up to (15/shift), a distance up to (50 feet.). * Patient Care Partner must access medical supplies to perform job duties. Requires repetitive assumption of posture to access a point (12 inches) from the floor, up to (12/shift). * Patient Care Partner stands to perform job duties when indicated.
