PRIMARY PURPOSE: The campus Math/Literacy Specialist serves as part of the school's leadership team: providing specialized instruction and intervention to identified students struggling in math or reading through the response to intervention process, monitoring student progress through quantitative and qualitative measures and participating in Student Success Plan (SSP) meetings to provide recommendations regarding adjustments to student instructional plans. In addition to providing support for students struggling in math or reading in a small group or individual setting, he/she will provide professional development and guidance for teachers to improve their knowledge of differentiating instructional strategies and monitoring/adjusting said practices to appropriately measure student progress in the classroom.
Valid Texas teacher's certification
Valid Texas Bilingual/ESL Spanish Certificate/Endorsement, preferred
Knowledge of Texas Assessment Program, district curriculum, and Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills
Demonstrate deep knowledge of the RtI process and district documentation process
Demonstrate a deep knowledge of intervention techniques and programs to accelerate the development of math and literacy skills
Ability to use the computer proficiently for word processing, development of presentations and record keeping
Ability to work collaboratively
Ability to model instructional techniques/strategies
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
Effective communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
Minimum three (3) years of Classroom experience as a teacher
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Provide daily focused instruction in small group math or literacy settings in a push-in model for students grades 3 5 or 6 8 struggling in math or reading to support students with making progress through the curriculum.
Assist the classroom teacher in maintaining progress monitoring records and anecdotal information as required by the SSP committee in order to effectively measure student progress while participating in given interventions.
Use a variety of assessments and monitoring tools to help diagnose and prescribe individual students needs as well as monitor the progress of individual students daily and throughout the year.
Participate in purposeful planning with teachers in specified PLC's and grade level meetings to assist teachers in identifying and serving students in need of intervention.
Participate in all required Title I 3 8 Math and Literacy Specialist professional developments and district level meetings. The Title I 3 8 Math and Literacy Specialist is charged with acquiring the knowledge, skills, technology skills, and instructional intervention strategies necessary to effectively impact student achievement.
Work collaboratively with the District Math Coordinator, District Reading Coordinator, Campus Intervention Specialist and Campus Title I Academic Specialist.
Meet regularly with the school administration to keep them abreast of student progress.
Actively pursue opportunities for life-long learning and professional growth.
Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations, and legal/local board policies.
Other duties related to the improvement of student achievement as determined by the principal.
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Must maintain emotional control and exercise reasoning and problem solving skills while under stress. Must demonstrate ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written). Should be able to interpret procedures and analyze data for decision-making.
