PRIMARY PURPOSE: The campus reading and/or math interventionist serves as part of the

school's leadership team: providing specialized instruction to identified struggling learners receiving services through the response to intervention process, monitoring student progress through quantitative and qualitative measures and participating in Student Success Plan (SSP) meetings to provide recommendations regarding adjustments to student instructional plans. In addition to providing support in core areas of reading and/or math to students, he/she will provide professional development and guidance for teachers to improve their knowledge of differentiating instructional strategies and monitoring/adjusting said practices to appropriately measure student progress in the classroom.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor's Degree

  • Valid Texas teacher's certification

  • 3 years of classroom experience

  • Reading and/or Math specialist certification, preferred

  • Valid Texas Bilingual/ESL - Spanish Certificate/Endorsement, preferred

Special Knowledge/Skills

  • Knowledge of Texas Assessment Program, district curriculum, and Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills

  • Demonstrate deep knowledge of the RtI process and district documentation process

  • Demonstrate a deep knowledge of intervention techniques and programs to accelerate the development of reading and math skills

  • Ability to use the computer proficiently for word processing, development of presentations and record keeping

  • Ability to work collaboratively

  • Ability to model instructional techniques/strategies

  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions

  • Effective communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills

Minimum Experience:

Minimum 3 years of credible teaching experience of relevant content areas.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Provide direct instruction/focused intervention for struggling students in either reading and/or math on a daily basis.

  • Assist the classroom teacher in maintaining progress monitoring records and anecdotal information as required by the SSP committee in order to effectively measure student progress while participating in given interventions.

  • Participate in purposeful planning with teachers in specified PLC's and grade level meetings to assist teachers in identifying and serving students in need of intervention.

  • Participate in all required interventionist professional development and district level meetings. The interventionist is charged with acquiring the knowledge, skills, technology skills, and instructional intervention strategies necessary to effectively impact student achievement.

  • Work collaboratively with the Title I Academic Specialist

  • Function as part of the SSP team to recommend appropriate academic interventions to meet the needs of individual students considering purpose, design, and implementation of the instructional program in content areas as well as other support programs related to the mission of the school including increasing student performance and academic achievement in the Texas Assessment Program.

  • Ensure that all teachers are familiar with all students on their class roster identified as participating in the RtI process and assist teacher in maintaining appropriate progress monitoring as prescribed by the SSP process.

  • Meet regularly with school administration to keep them abreast of student progress for those participating in Tier II and III interventions.

  • Actively pursue opportunities for life-long learning and professional growth.

  • Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations, and legal/local board policies.

  • Other duties related to the improvement of student achievement as determined by the principal.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Must maintain emotional control and exercise reasoning and problem-solving skills while under stress. Must demonstrate ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written). Should be able to interpret procedures and analyze data for decision-making. Frequent in-district and occasional in-state or national travel. Occasional prolonged and irregular hours.
