Scala Software Engineer

The Scala Software Engineer will have responsibility over all aspects of software development using the Scala programming language with associated platforms and tools including Akka, Slick, Cats and Spark to deliver modern solutions to portfolio managers, traders, and analysts. A successful candidate will have at least three years of experience in development and support of Scala applications, knowledge of the Amazon Web Services ecosystem for application deployment, experience working with demanding users, and willingness to learn and support new and existing applications.

Qualifications:

  • Must have provable knowledge of development in Scala and functional programming

  • Ability to work comfortably in at least one other common development language is desirable

  • Must have Bachelor's Degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering or related degree

  • Knowledge of Akka, Slick, Cats or Spark is preferred but not required

  • Knowledge of DevOps on Amazon Web Services is preferred but not required

  • Knowledge of data structures and algorithms

  • Knowledge of Linux at power-user level

  • Experience and comfort with working alongside a small group of demanding users in high-pressure environments

  • Ability to anticipate problems and issues and to proactively resolve them

  • Continuous improvement mindset and ability to think both strategically and tactically

  • Proven ability to work independently or with a team on multiple projects

  • Minimum three years of experience in Scala

Candidate will be tested on functional programming skills, knowledge of computer science theory, willingness to support existing applications, and prior experience in a small team where the candidate had to do many things and support demanding users.
