Reports to: VP, SC Collections

Functions Supervised: Special Credits control and credit card collections.

Primary Functions: Responsible for management, development and performance of Special Credits control functions.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform all duties of a Senior Special Credits Control Officer, as necessary.

  • Responsible for daily management to ensure timely completion of assigned responsibilities to maximize productivity and quality of work performed.

  • Responsible for regular reviews of associated work and for making recommendations regarding adjustment in work routines.

  • Responsible for review of delinquent loan and overdrawn share portfolios, and recommendation of accounts for charge off.

  • Responsible for timely assignment of work to Special Credits Administration, Operations, Collateral Control and Enforcement for continuation of collections actions on assigned accounts.

  • Responsible for timely recommendation for closure of credit limits consistent with credit union procedures/practices.

  • Responsible for negotiating and administering loss mitigation solutions for members experiencing financial difficulties to include, but not limited to, use of loan modification, refinances and extensions according to credit union policies/procedures/practices.

  • Responsible for development of staff to ensure all collections personnel follow all appropriate state and federal laws, regulations, and credit union policies/procedure/practices governing collection actions.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Education: Bachelor's degree in Business with advanced industry courses in collections and delinquency control.

Creditable Experience in Lieu of Education: Six years experience in the collection field with a minimum of four years in a supervisory capacity.

Must have at least six years experience in the consumer collection field with proven management ability to hire and develop collections routines proficiently and efficiently on credit card, consumer and real estate loan products. Thorough knowledge of consumer and credit card collection laws and other federal, state, and local laws related to delinquency control. Must have advanced knowledge of all office equipment and systems used for collections to include software products for daily, weekly, and monthly collection operations. Must have a proven ability to evaluate difficult situations and exercise good judgment. Requires proven writing abilities as well as good verbal communication skills. Must have good human relations skills and a strong personality to effectively handle adverse situations routinely with the ability to resolve conflict and promote cooperation and positive morale.

Duties and Responsibilities: * Contact members regarding delinquent financial obligations and make arrangements for repayment. * Respond to member inquires regarding financial obligations owed to the credit union. * Perform "skip-traces" as required. * Analyze and initiate documentation necessary for refinancing loans and loan extension requests. * Analyze and recommend to supervisors, when appropriate, adverse actions on accounts to include, but not limited to, repossessions, closure of credit limits, blocks on credit and debit cards, legal actions and account codes to alert other credit union departments of potential losses. * Perform other duties as assigned. Requirements Education: High School Graduate or equivalent. Creditable Experience in Lieu of Education: Not Applicable Experience/Skills: In the opinion of Special Credits Management applicants must display the aptitude and abilities to perform collection actions as required on past due financial obligations and provide members assistance in adverse situations. For internal applicants a minimum of six months of experience with direct and varied member contacts at the credit union is a requirement. Requires good verbal communication skills. Tenure: SC Control Officer II, Category 11 requires proven acceptable performance standards in the opinion of management that meets or exceeds expectations for proficiency and efficiency in the collection of past due financial obligations for a minimum period of six months as a SC Control Officer I. SC Control Officer III, Category 10 requires twelve months tenure in the SC Control Officer II position with performance that meets or exceeds expectations for proficiency and efficiency in collection of past due financial obligations and problem solving capacity of adverse situations involving members and their account relationships. At management's discretion, directly related work experience and/or accelerated training completion may be substituted for tenure.
