Santander Bank SBA (Small Business Administration) Lending has an opportunity for a talented, highly motivated, credit savvy sales professional for the position of SBA Sales Officer with primary responsibilities to collaboratively originate Small Business Administration (SBA) guaranteed loans alongside the Relationship Management team in an assigned geographic region. SBA Lending is part of the SBA Team of Business Banking. As a whole, SBA is responsible for the production, management and servicing of a $250M + portfolio of government guaranteed SBA 7(A) loans, Capital Access and 504 loans.

Responsibilities

  • Promote and build the Santander SBA brand within the community and act as a liaison for customers and prospects, and internal lending partners

  • Develop SBA loan requests from centers of influence, branch referrals and the lending staff

  • Attend customer and prospect visits throughout the assigned region, assist in customer communication and collection of information regarding a loan request and drive the SBA application package collection process

  • Perform a thorough review of financial statements, SBA forms, customer documentation, and third party reports/agreements to ensure accuracy and completeness

  • Assist in the closing process between borrower, bank and assigned attorneys as needed

  • Attend Market meetings, local credit summits and portfolio reviews to identify SBA opportunities, ensure SBA solutions are top of mind, and educate partners on the values and benefits of SBA lending

  • Maintain and apply a thorough understanding of the bank's credit policy, SBA eligibility and all necessary business practices to ensure the submission of accurate and complete loan application packages

  • Assess the credit structure to meet needs of both bank & borrower while minimizing credit risk; Understands and recognizes exceptions to SBA SOPs, bank policy and procedures

  • Maintain accurate reporting and realistic forecasting of deal flow

  • Actively participates in local SBA district functions within assigned market area

  • Remain current with SBA training/updates and changes to policies and procedures

  • Take responsibility for achieving strong results, despite balancing multiple complex demands

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, Economics, or equivalent field, or 9-12 years of equivalent work experience

  • Lending and/or new business calling experience or related commercial banking experience

  • Ability to analyze/understand leading technologies and companies

  • Ability to influence and drive complex initiatives and manage logistics with internal stakeholders

  • Ability to translate data into information

  • Ability to travel within assigned territory as required

  • Ability to work remotely and independently

  • Demonstrated ability to motivate and influence others

  • Demonstrated complex contact negotiation/creation skills

  • Expert presentation and public speaking skills

  • High level of proficiency in financial calculations

  • Proficiency in Microsoft office products

  • Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Sales oriented, energetic, and self motivated with strong initiative to achieve sales goals

  • Self-motivated and adept at setting, driving and leading a team to execute pipeline growth success

  • Strong analytical / problem solving skills

  • Strong organizational skills and detail orientation, as well as analytical skills

  • Strong relationship management and negotiation skills

  • Very strong interpersonal communication skills, complemented by both excellent verbal and written communication

  • Minimal physical effort such as sitting, standing, and walking
