Position Description

Advertised Job Summary

The Office of Research is seeking to hire a Program Manager for the Savannah River National Laboratory.

As a Program Manager, this position will play a pivotal role in fostering and strengthening the relationship between the University of South Carolina (USC) and the Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL). The Program Manager is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to increase USC undergraduate, graduate, and post-doctoral engagement with SRNL, facilitating collaborative opportunities, and promoting awareness of resources available for students and faculty.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor's Degree and four years experience in higher education, government grant funding, and program administration or equivalency.

Preferred Qualifications

Prefer prior experience with program management.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

The ability to interpret and apply rules and regulations. Manage work and provide guidance to employees.

Ability to make presentations and prepare reports. Ability to resolve problems and communicate outcomes, able to interpret plans and interact with various levels of personnel. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to use technology, problem solve and utilize conscious decision making.

Domestic student outreach: In collaboration with the Graduate School and STEM graduate programs, prepare themed recruitment documents for recruitment activities and for the USC National Lab Office (NLO) web site.

Develop and maintain database of domestic graduate student prospects for recruitment and share with STEM departments in support of recruitment efforts. Travel as necessary to recruitment events.

Program Development and Support: Design and implement programs and initiatives aimed at increasing student involvement with the national laboratory.

Coordinate workshops, seminars, and events to educate students and faculty about the research conducted at the laboratory and potential collaboration opportunities. Establish experiential learning opportunities for students to engage directly with the laboratory. Ensure the effective delivery of administrative and support activities for program participants.

Evaluation and Assessment: Reporting Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of engagement initiatives and programs, collecting feedback from students, faculty, and laboratory partners.

Use data and feedback to make informed decisions and adjustments to engagement strategies as needed. Prepare reports and presentations to share findings and outcomes with university leadership and laboratory stakeholders.

General administration: Maintain/update NLO web site.

Coordinate with VPR's Finance administrator to track expenditures and make projections of available funds. Prepare financial report to SC State Government stakeholders using the required templates. Prepare travel authorizations, purchase requisitions, and contract requests necessary to support NLO activities.

Strategic and Operations Planning: Support the development of strategic and operational plans in collaboration with university leadership and national laboratory representatives to enhance student engagement.

Identify opportunities for collaboration and partnership between the institution and the national laboratory. Stay abreast of trends and initiatives in higher education and scientific research to inform engagement strategies.

Outreach and Promotion: In collaboration with the Communications Team, develop marketing materials and communication strategies to promote engagement opportunities with the national laboratory. Utilize social media, newsletters, and other platforms to raise awareness of events, programs, and resources available to students and faculty.
