Job Description:

The RF Payloads Center of Excellence (RFCOE) of Lockheed Martin Space is seeking hardworking, highly motivated Software Architect to guide development and build of the next generation of RF Digital Payloads and Communication Systems.

As a Software Architect you will work closely with our Payload System Architects to understand key requirements and mature program solutions.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Leading software development efforts and team to support payload communications processors and digital payload electronics. This includes software planning, architecture definition, and preliminary system design.

  • Crafting technology maturation and risk reduction plans for critical payload elements and satellite subsystems.

  • Supporting proposal development activities for objective payload systems including solution development and cost estimation.

  • Supporting hardware selection efforts, determining software resource requirements.

  • Developing radiation-tolerant software architectures and functions on commercial devices.

Experience with VxWorks running on PowerPC, LEON, ARM, and multicore processor technologies is strongly desired.

You will typically have 12 or more years of professional experience for this role.

Basic Qualifications

  • Extensive experience with embedded software development for real-time, high reliability systems

  • Prior team leadership and/or management experience overseeing the architecture, development, and delivery of complex processing systems

  • Demonstrated leadership of multi-functional teams to create technical solutions within cost and schedule targets

  • Ability to collaborate with internal multi-functional organizations, building shared visions

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including a proven ability to interact effectively with customers, management, and peers. Ability to write technical sections of customer requests for information (RFIs) or proposals, including developing presentations to describe the technical approach in a clear manner

  • Ability to obtain a TS/SCI clearance

As a Digital Systems Engineer with Space you would develop RF payload solutions and the RF / electronic components for Space and Missile platforms. Work with RF from the MHz range all the way up through Optical systems. Communication payloads or RF payloads are needed for every platform and serve missions ranging from human space flight, commercial broadband services, national intelligence, protected communications, navigation and more. Our product portfolio includes a wide range of international and domestic programs, addressing the important needs of our commercial, civil and military customers. Specific responsibilities include: * Develop design concepts and technical baselines for payload communications processors and satellite controllers * Develop payload subsystem-level requirements and interface definitions * Conducting payload design trades, including potential source identification/selection through formal Requests for Information (RFI) * Perform analysis and decompose system level performance requirements to verifiable allocated subsystems/components requirement. Perform analysis to size computing/Digital signal processing/FPGA resources needed to implement the functionality specified to the subsystem. * Create technology maturation and risk reduction plans for critical payload elements and satellite subsystems * Support proposal development activities for objective payload systems * Coordinate with partners (e.g., subcontractor, customer, SEIT, and multiple M&P and parts organizations) and handle closure of Action Items and Liens.
