Satcom Engineer

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY:

Comtech Systems, Inc. (CSI) is looking for a SATCOM Engineer to assist senior personnel in formulating and developing communications requirements and design standards. Provide operations and maintenance support satellite communication solutions support CONUS and OCONUS locations worldwide. Responsible for responsible for the setup, configuration, implementation, operations, management, troubleshooting and resolving customer technical problems. Provide technical problem diagnoses and resolution support for all associated subsystems, including line monitoring, modem loop-back tests, LAN performance monitoring and terminal failure determination. Provide hardware and software installation and configuration support. Commensurate experience and education.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

All candidates will perform the following duties:

• Provide Tier 2 and/or Tier 3 network support for a complex enterprise WAN and LAN network

• Troubleshoot and identify sources of problems and resolve issues

• Monitor and resolve service requests in accordance with published Service Level Agreements (SLAs)

• Review and assist in the creation of desktop management policies and procedures for an enterprise.

• Assist in establishing and enforce best practice processes for network management, including configurations, monitoring, patch management and security

• Operate Satellite Modems, Redundancy Switch, associated cables, and interconnects; Up Converters, Redundancy Switch; Down Converters, High Power Amplifiers (HPAs), Low Noise Amplifiers (LNAs), Low Noise Block (LNB); Waveguide (rigid, flex, and elliptical) joints and connections; Intermediate Frequency (IF) cable and connections; Antenna, Antenna motors, Solid State Power Amplifiers (SSPA), Antenna Control Unit (ACU), and associated cabling and interconnects; Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Units; Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS); Generator (if applicable)

• Maintain and troubleshoot using any Test Measurement and Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE) required over and above the Built-In-Test (BIT) capability of the supported equipment

• Manage and maintain telecommunication installation supplies

• Maintain daily on-hand inventories

• Operate Satellite Radios and maintain those systems

• Operate FDMA and TDMA modems

• Operate an iDirect modem and or Hub

• Have experience with Global Security Systems (GSS), Access Control entry (ACE), Wireless, Riverbeds, Infoblox.

• Have in-depth knowledge of complex LAN/WAN communications, network hardware's such as Cisco routers, Ethernet switches, bridges, gateways and firewalls.

• Have in-depth knowledge of routing protocols such as RIP, EIGRP, BGP and OSPF.

• Have strong understanding and practical experience with technologies like Multi-Schedule Private Line Service Tariffs (MPLS), Virtual Private LAN Service (VPLS), MLA Virtual Private Network (VPNs) and Traffic Engineering Duties involve among others, management of local and wide area network, projects, and installation of new devices, system and on-going maintenance of infrastructure.

SKILLS REQUIRED:

All candidates will have the following minimum skills:

• Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbally with diverse audiences, internally and externally to foster strong teamwork.

• Work well independently or as a member of a team environment

• Detail-oriented, with strong analytical skills.

• Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in support of installations, repair, troubleshooting or maintenance of satellite communications electronic systems or equipment.

• Minimum of ten (10) years' experience operating in a tactical satellite environment operating/maintaining antenna controller, SSPA, LNA/LNB, up and down converters, Fiber optic/Coax/Ethernet Cable, Frequency Division Multiple Access (FDMA) and Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) modems (satellite modems) and Modem Hub operations.

• Experience and skill with commercial and military satellite and commercial TDMA/FDMA modems required.

Certificate Requirements:

• Shall have Cisco CCNP
• Shall have CompTia Security+
• Shall have CompTia Network+

CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:

Applicants must possess:

• The ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance at the level required by each assigned task.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor's degree in related field, preferred

In lieu of a bachelor's degree in related field, candidate must meet either of the following:

• An associate degree plus seven (7) years of recent specialized experience
