REPORTS TO: DIRECTOR, Groundwork for Success

LOCATION: Transit Tech Career and Technical Education High School, 1 Wells Street Brooklyn, NY 11208

HOURS: 2 Hours/Week, Non-Exempt After-school hours. 10 weeks. Start date preferably the first week of September and finishing around December 1st.

JOB SUMMARY: The SAT Instructor will work with The College Preparation and Leadership Program located within the Groundwork for Success program, which is a division of Good Shepherd Services, to assist program participants (Juniors and Seniors) of varying academic levels in either Math or English preparation for the SAT exam on December 1, 2018.

MAJOR DUTIES:

  • Provide individual and group instruction in the Math or English components of SAT test.

  • Provide study techniques and assignments that can be completed by scholars between sessions.

  • Identify problem areas and implement approaches and/ or seek advisement when necessary.

  • Communicate and coordinate with staff and program leadership regarding progress.

  • Some One-on-one and small group tutoring are also a part of the role.

  • Periodic assessments of scholars' progress reported to program director and Success Coaches.

  • Limited additional hours will be expected as needed in preparation for November SAT exam.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BA degree preferred, with experience working with adolescents.

  • SAT Instruction or Tutoring experience required.

  • Excellent classroom management and engagement skills required.

  • Must have a commitment to work from a strength based and/or youth development perspective.

VIEW JOBS 1/8/2019 12:00:00 AM 2019-04-08T00:00 Overview Operating under the umbrella of Good Shepherd Services' Groundwork for Success college readiness program, the High School College Access 4 All (CA4A) Facilitator at East NY Academy coordinates advisement and college awareness for high school students with a special focus on college preparation for the Junior class cohort. The CA4A Facilitator will work in conjunction with the Junior/Senior guidance counselor to provide college awareness to students and parents through educational workshops and college trips and will promote a college-going culture through engaging events, visible promotion, outreach and coordination with teachers and administration. The CA4A will also support the guidance counselor in advising and supporting the Senior class cohort in their successful applications and transition to college. Reports to: Senior Program Director, Groundwork for Success Location: East NY Family Academy, 145 Pennsylvania Avenue, Brooklyn NY 11207 Hours: 20 hrs per week; Non-Exempt, flexible to schedule, temporary position Dec/2018-June/2019 Major Duties: * Develop workshops on topics designed to engage Juniors in the college application process, such as career exploration, college majors, writing college essays and college life. * Meet with Junior students individually to start the process of exploring careers and college majors, developing a college list based on personal circumstances and preferences, planning extra-curricular and service projects for a well-rounded profile, creating and uploading a student profile to use for college-related documents. Educate Junior students on college application requirements and the timeline. * Organize and chaperone day college tours including one full-day trip to a college outside metropolitan area. Coordinate with college admissions personnel regarding campus visit opportunities for students. * Conduct college application support for Seniors as a secondary support to supplement guidance counselor's advisement. Includes support on FAFSA, enrollment and class selection, HEOP applications, etc. * Help facilitate workshops for parents on the college application process or related social/emotional support topics as needs arise and time allows. * Organize and maintain college office files, application data, attendance and photo documentation of work. Communicate with NYCDOE Office for Postsecondary Readiness with progress reports and any other required communication. Qualifications: 
 * Bachelor's or Master's degree preferred. * Youth Development experience and perspective. * Experience with College Application process and willingness to gain extensive knowledge. * Self-motivated with a positive attitude.
