Location Description

Michael Foods, Inc. located in Yuma, Arizona nestled between Phoenix and San Diego. Yuma features extraordinary outdoor activities from tubing on the Colorado River to off-roading at the Buttercup Sand Dunes. Our location produces hard boiled eggs for a vast number of both retail and food service customers.

Responsibilities

SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for effective cleaning in specified areas of the facility. The facility's compliance with all corporate, local, state, and federal food sanitation regulations will be the main priority, along with the health and safety of the workforce, the safety of the food, and the employees. This will be accomplished by understanding, applying, and maintaining food safety through the cleaning of equipment in food production, packaging, and support areas while adhering to the standards of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs, SSOPs, and safety), as well as business and food industry cleaning and sanitation procedures.

ACITIVITIES:

  • Assumes personal responsibility to ensure a safe and healthy workplace for everyone.

  • Adheres to all safety policies and procedures and incorporates safety and health into all job duties and tasks.

  • It is expected to adhere to safe work practices, follow GMP and food safety guidelines, maintain sanitary conditions, and ensure that product integrity is intact in order to maintain SQF certification.

  • Follow all safety procedures and policies and report any unsafe or unsanitary conditions or practices that may adversely affect food safety, food quality, or personnel safety.

  • Attends and actively participates in safety meetings and trainings.

  • Ensures regulatory compliance at all times.

  • Ability to follow SSOP instructions and report any production or sanitation issues to the leads or supervisors.

  • Adhere to the Safe Chemical Handling Policy.

  • Assist in Clean Out of Place (COP) procedures.

  • Assist in the setup and start of designated production equipment such as cookers, chillers, peelers, etc.

  • Assist other employees as needed to complete assigned tasks.

  • Attend the plant-wide training classes.

  • Completely fill out and initial the SSOP documentation upon completion of the task at the end of the shift.

  • Dismantle, protect as needed, and clean packaging and processing lines and equipment according to the seven steps of an effective cleaning process, SSOPs, and master sanitation schedule.

  • Performs pre-op sanitation inspections to ensure that SSOPs are followed properly.

  • Successful completion of yearly chemical training.

  • Successful completion of yearly LOTO (Lock Out Tag Out) training.

  • Use chemicals according to SSOP directions and test for accuracy using the titration method.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or equivalent.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers. Ability to print and speak simple sentences.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10s and 100s.

Ability to perform these operations using units of standard weight measurement, volume, and distance.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to interpret a variety of instructions provided in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Specific skills and abilities required that are not included in other sections:

  • Ability to function as a team member.

  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs. repeatedly throughout the shift.

  • Ability to operate specific equipment or tools.

  • Ability to work with water and industrial-strength cleaners and chemicals while wearing appropriate PPE.

  • Follow good manufacturing practices (GMPs), safety regulations, and sanitation procedures for the area.

  • Proficient writing, verbal, and communication skills.

  • Learn Lock Out/Tag Out (LOTO) procedures.

  • Maintain regular and consistent attendance.

  • Must be able to distinguish between sounds such as forklift horns, fire alarms, machine signals, etc.

  • Must be able to perform work at or above shoulder height for short periods of time throughout the shift.

  • Must be able to push, pull, bend, stretch, twist, and/or reach throughout the shift.

  • Must be able to reach, grasp, and make fast, repeated movements of fingers, hands, and wrists throughout the shift.

  • Must be able to stand and walk for the entirety of the shift (8 hours).

  • Must be able to work holidays, overtime, weekends, or other shifts when necessary.

  • Must be able to work in a hot, humid, and cold manufacturing environment.

  • Must be comfortable climbing up and down stairs or ladders throughout the shift.

  • Must be comfortable working in dusty environments.

  • Must be detail-oriented.

  • Must be focused and attentive at all times.

  • Strong diligence when reassembling equipment.
