Job Summary:

The Plant Sanitation Supervisor is responsible for implementing the sanitation program, and for ensuring that all current Food Safety Standards are being met throughout the site. The Sanitation Supervisor will train and develop all sanitation employees to be able to identify and control GMP issues and to enforce all current food safety standards. The Sanitation Supervisor will be responsible for communicating in a clear manner any sanitation issues with the Quality Manager, Plant Manager, and/or all the Production and Sanitation staff.

Core Accountabilities:

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Assist in the development of and maintenance of Sanitation program (HACCP, Allergen, etc.) for a variety of products in compliance with customer and government regulations.

  • Assists with the development of Sanitation procedures and paperwork.

  • Assists with policy, procedures and paperwork to ensure that all Company and Customer standards are achieved in assigned plant.

  • Responsible for the management of the Master Sanitation Schedule (MSS).

  • Leads Continuous Improvement of facility sanitation.

  • Responsible for the Sanitation budget.

  • Supervises Sanitation chemical suppliers.

  • Works with the Product Safety Auditor to identify and correct sanitation or environmental issues at assigned facility.

  • Ensures that all chemicals used in the plant are approved for such use and that all chemicals have current MSDS information on site.

  • Responsible for the dilution testing of all chemicals needing diluted.

  • Assist with facility audits. SQF Practitioner certification is a plus.

  • Assists with consumer complaint issues and leading plant teams in the direction necessary to minimize complaints.

  • Work with the Sanitation Team in identifying sanitation or regulation issues at assigned facility.

  • Ensure that the facility is ready for Third Party or Customer inspections.

  • Manages Sanitation staff.

  • Develop and train all steps of each plant clean-up.

  • Provides an atmosphere that allows for the development of future supervisors or managers.

  • Responsible for scheduling, maintaining and approving sanitation employee's work hours and time off requests on a daily basis. Dayforce experience is a plus.

  • Must have a strong working relationship with Plant Manager and Quality Manager.

  • Other duties as identified or assigned by the Quality Manager.

  • Fill in for Quality Manger during his/her absence.

Required Competencies & Knowledge:

Knowledge of:

  • Master Sanitation Plan and other legal requirements for the food industry, including GMP's.

  • Must be knowledgeable regarding requirements of USDA and FDA.

  • Must be knowledgeable in GMP's, HACCP, and Allergens.

  • Must understand the 10 principles of sanitary equipment design.

  • Good understanding of commercial manufacturing Fresh, Frozen, and Co-packaging

Skilled in:

  • Demonstrated good record in developing and maintaining programs and handling conflicts with positive and practical attitude.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, computer literate, self-motivated and able to make sound business decisions.

  • Excellent motivational and people skills.

Ability to:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, analytical ability, leadership strength and ability to work effectively with all levels of the organization.

  • Work in a fast-paced environment

  • Make sound business decisions.

Proficiency in:

  • MS Office applications including Outlook, Excel, Word

  • ERP systems: SAP preferred

  • TabWare experience is a plus

  • Dayforce experience is a plus

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in sanitation or related field, or combination of education and relevant experience.

  • Five (5) or more years of experience in the food industry with at least three (3) years' experience in a Sanitation department.

  • Two (2) or more years of Sanitation supervisory experience.

  • Wet cleaning sanitation experience with knowledge of safe chemical handling procedures.

Work Environment:

  • This is a refrigerated/frozen facility with temperatures in the 32-to-40-degree range.

  • Combination of computer work in an office setting as well as frequent time spent in production environment with exposure to noise, dust, moving machinery, forklifts, and fluctuations in temperature.

  • Ability to lead from the office as well as the production floor. This position spends 60-70% of the shift on the plant floor.
