SANITATION DRIVER/COLLECTOR

City of Newnan, Georgia

The City is currently seeking to fill a position in the Sanitation Department. This exciting position will require the individual to not only work to keep the downtown streets of Newnan clean, but will be the front line of customer service for our downtown residents and business owners.

SUMMARY:

Under the direct supervision of Sanitation Superintendent, perform intermediate skilled trades work operating heavy equipment in the collection of waste and recyclables, performing equipment inspection and minor repairs and related work as apparent or assigned. The duties listed are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. • Drive and operate sanitation collection truck on prescribed route, picking up refuse and transporting to appropriate facilities; drive and operate garbage packer, boom truck, front end loader and other heavy equipment.

• Perform pre-trip safety inspections on trucks and heavy equipment; checks fluids, tires, lights, etc.

• Operate heavy equipment in the operation and maintenance of the department's facilities; haul brush and debris.

• Perform light preventative and general maintenance on vehicle; clean and gas vehicle.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or GED and moderate experience operating automotive and heavy equipment, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

REQUIREMENTS

• Valid State Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

• Possession of or ability to obtain Flagger certification within one year of hire.

• Background check, motor vehicle history, and pre-employment drug screen required.

Minimum Starting Pay $20.54 per hour
