GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITY: Responsible for managing samples throughout the aliquoting and storage processes. Duties may include aliquoting, storing, freezing, transporting, and preparing specimens for laboratory analysis.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Level 1

  • Assist with disposal of specimens.

  • Perform duties of a Sample Processing Clerk as needed.

  • Aliquot specimens for testing.

  • Pull samples requiring additional screening tests following revised batch process.

  • Retrieve specimens from short or long term storage which includes completion of chain of custody documentation.

  • Transfer specimens to storage.

  • Freeze positive samples.

  • Pull reflex positive samples and prepare aliquots for laboratory analysis.

  • Log and prepare samples for intra-company transfer.

  • Maintain and protect the confidentiality of all CRL, CRL subsidiaries, legal entities and client information.

  • Be able to comply with all applicable federal, state, and local safety and health regulations that would apply to this job.

  • Keep work area(s) neat and clean, dispose of trash.

Other duties as assigned.

Level 2

  • Re-aliquot urine specimens for screening or confirmation, including the completion of chain of custody requirements and coordinate transfer for laboratory analysis.

  • Locate and retrieve oral fluid samples for screening or confirmation for test adds, order modifications and/or retesting requirements. Complete chain of custody requirements and coordinate for laboratory analysis.

  • Locate and retrieve sweat patches for retest requirements including the completion of chain of custody requirements and coordinate for laboratory analysis.

  • Batch confirmation aliquots by drug class and complete specimen chains for correct routing to Elisa, LC screening, or confirmation testing.

  • Process insurance and clinical trials specimens, including re-prep and test add requests.

  • Process misdirects.

  • Process and respond to service requests from multiple departments.

  • Research and resolve problems related to tracking, daily workflow and/or general inquiries.

SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Good communication skills

  • Ability to read information quickly and retain for use in processing

  • Familiarity with computers

  • Ability to be at work and on time

  • Ability and judgment to interact and communicate appropriately with other employees, clients and management

The following physical attributes are required for this position:

  • Sitting for extended lengths of time

  • Close vision requirements due to computer work

  • Repetitive use of hands, fingers, wrists, and elbows for operating a computer and telephone

  • Bending/ stooping

  • Audible recognition of computer error warning.

EQUIPMENT: Box knife, laboratory coat, gloves, face shield, pipettes, barcode scanner, computer terminal, laser printer, trash compactor, minus 20° freezer.

OTHER: Shifts extend until work is finished; weekend work is necessary; specimens consist of body fluids and must be regarded as potentially infectious; task of handling, processing and disposing of specimens. To operate company vehicle requires acceptable driving record. Trash compactor operator requires minimum age of 18 years.
