Job Summary:

The Sales Support position at SMP requires a detailed oriented skill set and the ability to multi-task. Responsibilities include preparation of quotes, IT configurations, registrations, license renewals, sales order entry, and support for Account Managers in an IT solutions environment.

Summary of Essential Job Duties:

  • Prepare quotes, IT configurations, registrations, license renewals, sales order entry, and provide support for Account Managers

  • Develop/maintain strong relationships and ensure timely communications with appropriate customer personnel, including account managers and senior management

  • Provide timely and accurate reports on results as required by management

  • Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability when assigned additional responsibilities or projects

  • Assist with phone coverage during lunches, vacations, etc.

Qualifications and Competencies:

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Strong technical aptitude with the ability to quickly learn concepts related to computer system configurations

  • Basic understanding of common business practices in the areas of sales cycles, customer service, accounting, pricing, purchasing, shipping, and billing

  • Ability to interpret customers requests accurately and issue clear instructions to other departments

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Able to work independently, but within a team environment

  • Able to function in a fast-paced, dynamic organization

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Creative thinker and independent problem solver

  • Excellent organization and record keeping skills

  • Must be proficient with MS Word, Excel

  • Ability to effectively communicate with coworkers, customers/vendors, and management. Present a positive professional image to all levels of the organization, treating all with dignity, respect, and courtesy

  • Foster, promote, and contribute to a SMPs Core Values


  • High School Diploma/GED; Bachelors degree preferred

  • At least five (5) years of customer service experience (experience in the technology industry preferred)

  • Minimum one (1) year experience in inside sales, or related role

  • Experience working IT hardware products and services preferred

  • Experience with order entry, quoting or business software tools (QuoteWerks, Sage, ConnectWise) preferred

  • Experience working with our Partners such as Cisco, Dell, EMC and VMWare preferred.

In this role, you will: * Work from one of two Paychex centers in Rochester or Phoenix executing national lead generation. * Develop rapport and evaluate the business owner/decision maker?s Human Capital Management needs, determining which products are appropriate and referring to internal partners as needed. * Establish Paychex?s position in the marketplace as a quality nationwide payroll and human resource service provider by effectively presenting product offerings and benefits * Contact current or prospective clients to present products and services and create qualified leads for sales representatives * Ensure the current or prospective client meets lead quality parameters * Schedule appointments utilizing multiple communication channels (phone, email, marketing campaigns). * Achieve daily production quotas pertaining to dials and leads * Build and maintain an organized database of prospective clients for market research by tracking business information from potential clients * Project a positive image consistent with our values in representing Paychex to clients and the community. * Strive to consistently gain technical, competitive and sales skills knowledge to stay agile and relevant in today?s business climate.
