The Western Region Sales Representative will be responsible for new equipment sales and support for the geographic region to include Arizona, California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Utah, Nevada and Colorado. It is preferred that the representative be located in Denver, CO


Is a proactive role where the successful sales professional will find the correct balance between customer facing activities and back office sales support. Customer facing activities will be about promoting new equipment sales and service of Sulzer's pumps and accessories to established and new customers by providing technical and commercial proposals in response to inquiries. Back office sales support is all about providing positive leadership and ahereance to those activities needed to adequately close an order in Sulzer's favor.

Overall Responsibility:

Meet annual performance targets utilizing Sulzer's tools and processes while maintaining compliance with corporate health, safety, environmental and ethics policies.


  • Calls on prospective customers and maintains contacts with customers in relation to their requirements

  • Sells Sulzer/Sulzer Pumps US products and services to established customers.

  • Finds and develops new customers and new sales potential within existing customers

  • Negotiates orders, including all technical, commercial, and legal details to mutual satisfaction of customers and Company

  • Will be adequately informed about any and all aspects of the proposal such that the sales representative is able to close the opportunity in Sulzer's favor

  • Utilize and support Sulzer's RES Department (Aftermarket Sales) to ensure mutual synergies are identified and applied to further enhance each segment's sales goals.

  • Travels to customer locations to insure close and regular face to face contacts

  • Ensures all interested parties, internal and external of Company, are aware of trends and developments in pumps, pumping system, and markets

  • Entertains customers during and outside normal business hours on a regular basis consistent with expense budgets and good business practices

  • Stays informed on new products or services and other general information of interest to customers

  • Deliver (or assist) product presentations to customers.


  • The sales representative will be responsible to adequately and proactively share the client requirements with all sales support teams such that Sulzer is in a best position to secure and/or renew orders.

  • Coordinate and lead the various internal sales support disciples (engineering, costing, procurement, operations, etc.) to formulate and execute effective bidding strategies.

  • The sales representative will responsibly adhere to and fully utilize Sulzer's prescribed tools and processes from pre-inquiry through order processing

  • Maintains and supports Sulzer's Customer Relationship Management program (Sales Forces) within his or her territory and keeps records and makes reports to all involved of all phases of activity, as appropriate

  • Pays special attention to Alliance clustomers to insure needs are satisfied

  • Refers customer complaints using established protocol to proper departments and follows up to ensure satisfactory resolutions for all concerned

  • Maintains and keeps clean Company supplied vehicle and other assets

  • Maintains good cross discipline relationships within Company

  • Maintains membership and is active in organizations related to pump industry

  • Supports, cooperates with, and participates in company-wide LEAN and ESH Management System which includes following all safety, health and environmental policies and procedures. Supports and cooperates in company-wide Quality Management effort.

  • Adheres to company and department policies, procedures, and standards

  • Reports sales expenses on monthly basis.

  • Performs other duties as necessary


  • Manages work and responsible for overall direction of New Equipment Sales Representative


  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Sciences, or related field

  • Minimum three years experience in a role where engineered pumps and pump packages has been selected, configured and quoted in compliance to a set of client specifications. Other experiences in marketing and/or engineering of API 610 pumps will be considered

  • Excellent written, verbal, negotiation, and interpersonal skills in English language without supervision or oversight

  • Strong knowledge of pumps, applications, and hydraulics

  • Ability to proactively work independently and efficiently with little direct supervision

  • Outgoing and positive personality

  • Ability to accept rejection and still maintain a positive attitude

  • Valid state drivers license with good driving record

  • Proficient in math and computer skills including Microsoft Office Excel, Word and Power Point

  • Strong ability to utilize technical knowledge and analytical skills to resolve problems and objections from both internal and external forces

Willingness to travel (by vehicle and air) on a routine basis with occasional weekend stays, as required for given assignment/territory
