The Analyst position provides reporting and business analysis for life and annuity sales and marketing distribution leadership to aid in decision making and to provide targeted strategic analysis in support of financial results. This position supports all distribution channels and all product lines within the Life and Annuity Division (LAD).
Report Development Independently develops weekly, monthly, and quarterly life and annuity reports for LAD. This includes working with life and annuity Account Management, Distribution Executive Leadership, and Internal Partners to translate business reporting needs into well-designed, easy-to-maintain dashboards.
Insights & Analytics Leverages new and existing technologies to provide key business insights to LAD leadership which impact critical business processes and decisions. Improves organizational performance through the application of independent problem-solving and process improvement techniques to existing and emerging software, methods, processes, products and services. Identifies analytical methods required to solve relevant business problems, drawing from industry-standard statistical methods and data sciences, as needed.
Defect Management & Testing/Validation (QA/QC) Validates sales reporting both pre- and post-production, independently verifies the accuracy of all reports. Communicates effectively with the IT Department on any reporting errors that are found to ensure timely correction. Serves as a key point of contact to ensure that internal partners are kept current on any key status updates from the IT Department. Submits production errors to the IT Department, ensuring clear, thorough, and comprehensive details are provided with each ticket.
Systems, Technology & Automation Acquires all knowledge required to serve as a subject matter expert on distribution systems-related inquiries and projects. This includes researching and documenting data and system infrastructure, investigating data integrity issues, obtaining access to and leveraging new data sources to solve business reporting needs, and working with the IT Department in an advisory capacity to translate business needs into actionable technical requirements. Writes custom-direct queries in SQL, creates custom-built CUBEs for internal partners, writing basic macros/coding in VBA or other scripting languages such as R or Python, and utilizing data visualization software such as Tableau, Power BI, or Pyramid. Must possess innate ability to strike a balance between complexity, automation, effort required to implement and maintain, ability to translate to nontechnical end users (ease of use), ability to cross-train teammates, and value-added to the company.
Project Management & Driving Results leads cross-departmental projects, defines the business case, and establishes project plan documents including deliverables schedules, key milestones, communication plans, and execution strategies. Identifies risks to the project and proactively communicates those risks to stakeholders along with recommendations for effective risk-mitigation strategies wherever possible. Executes according to schedule and meets all pre-defined deadlines, driving results across teams (including influencing others where formal organizational accountability structure does not exist).
Communication Serves as a primary point of contact to executive management on key reporting initiatives, ensuring timely and effective communication inclusive of ideation and discovery efforts, project execution and delivery, formal installation and any required quality control and post-installation defect-management.
Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred; Concentration in a Business Analytics, Finance, Mathematics, Technology or a related discipline strongly preferred
Expert working knowledge of Excel required; ability to write and interpret complex formulas, transform raw, unorganized data into a clean, usable, and easy to maintain format for use in dashboard automation and construction of data sources for the purpose of feeding other software and database tools
Must possess very strong attention to detail; Ability to perform duties with high degree of autonomy, accuracy, precision and efficiency required
Demonstrated ability to use data to drive decision making required
Excellent verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills required
Working knowledge of SQL required
5 years analytical experience preferred, or demonstrated equivalent skillset at the discretion of the Director
Industry experience preferred
Familiarity with analytics tools/self-service data aggregators such as Tableau, Pyramid, Google Analytics, preferred
R, Python, and VBA preferred
Familiarity with regression, segmentation, clustering, and other advanced statistical analysis techniques preferred
Strong technical understanding of relational database design and underlying data structures preferred
Experience creating detailed and concise documentation of tasks and processes
Excellent team player with strong collaborative skills and ability to bring innovative ideas to the organization
Demonstrated strong work ethic with drive to overcome challenges
Demonstrated experience in improving processes and creating efficiencies
Demonstrated experience in coaching or training others in technical subject matter and software (mentorship mentality preferred)
