The City of Sugar Land is seeking a full time Sales & Events Manager in the Economic Development & Tourism Department.

  • Develop and implement comprehensive sales strategies to attract domestic and international tourists.

  • Collaborate with the marketing team to create promotional campaigns that align with the City's strategic priorities.

  • Directly oversee efforts of the Sales & Events Coordinator and ensure efficient collaboration between city departments and the Event Review Committee (ERC) pertaining to the special event permitting process.

  • Conduct market research to identify trends, competitive landscape, and potential areas for growth.

  • Effectively attain assigned sales and revenue goals as well as solicitation call goals.

  • Analyze sales data and performance metrics to refine sales strategies and tactics.

  • Prepare regular reports on sales activities, achievements, and market conditions.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with hospitality and retail stakeholders, travel agencies, site selectors, tour operators, meeting planners, and other key stakeholders.

  • Act as the primary point of contact for sales inquiries and client relationships.  Actively seek RFP opportunities and provide bid requests by requested deadlines.

  • Attend industry events, trade shows, and conferences to network and promote Sugar Land as a destination.

  • Manage hotel relationships by establishing strong partnerships, negotiating favorable contracts, and collaborating on marketing efforts.  This also includes addressing guest feedback, monitoring performance metrics, organizing familiarization trips, and attending industry events to foster and maintain these relationships, ensuring a positive visitor experience and driving tourism growth.

  • Proactively conduct solicitation calls, conduct familiarization tours, and entertain clients specific to target markets and groups identified through strategic planning.

  • Develop customized sales proposals and presentations to attract potential clients.

Formal Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Hospitality, Tourism, Marketing, or a related field.

  • Additional relevant experience may be considered in lieu of specific educational requirements.

Relatable Work Experience:

  • Minimum of five 5 years of progressive experience in sales, hospitality, tourism, marketing, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience

  • Proven track record of successfully meeting or exceeding sales targets.

  • Experience in developing and implementing sales strategies and plans.

  • Demonstrated experience in building strong client relationships and negotiating contracts.
