The successful candidate for Safety Technical Support Engineer will join a growing team of Health, Safety & Engineering professionals helping our customers reduce their work-related risk to quality, productivity and employee health.

This is a contract position for 40 weeks one year requiring travel to different locations. Travel will be for periods of 10 -20 weeks at a time possible at each location (Selmer, TN, Decatur, AL, Camden, SC, Lafayette, GA). Travel costs will be covered where appropriate.

Successful candidates will have the following attributes:

Thorough knowledge of state and national OHSA laws and Codes of Practice, corporate safety programs for manufacturing applied safety experience and knowledge of ergonomic assessment tools

Specifically knowledge of and demonstrated subject matter expertise in Lock out Tag Out procedures and risk assessment of equipment to meet requirements

Experience working in a manufacturing team environment

Demonstrated conflict management skills, strong interpersonal, negotiation and persuasion skills

Strong analytical, problem solving and organization skills as well as strong oral and written communication skills

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office

RESPONSIBILITIES

Act as a Subject Matter Expert in the field of Safety, particularly in evaluating design of new/current, equipment with respect to Lockout Tagout procedures.

Conduct Risk Assessments on various machinery and tooling including tasks related to:

  • Reviewing LOTO procedures to be validated and updated
  • Reviewing LOTO procedure per equipment
  • Labeling unlabeled LOTO points as needed
  • Verifying LOTO procedure with process owner
  • Updating systems as needed
  • Making any changes required at the site per engineer feedback
  • Reviewing LOTO procedures to be validated and updated

Effectively communicate new initiatives, standards, regulations, significant incidents and management directives to internal and external stakeholders

Technical consultant and advisor in technical and non-technical safety topics, including local and national safety regulations

Must present the knowledge, confidence and ability to take immediate and appropriate action when an "imminent risk of serious injury" has been identified

Work in cooperation with union Health and Safety Representatives to achieve objectives

The successful candidate will be responsible for their own relocation expenses

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Safety, a related discipline or CSP certification
  • 5 - 10 years of experience in the field and in this area of subject matter
  • Available to travel to various customer locations

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES * Provide Launch Vehicle Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering expertise at our Decatur, AL office. * Apply expertise in Structures, materials, manufacturing, industrial engineering, logistics, test, operations, processes, personnel, and organizations. * Prepare assessments of Engineering Review Boards including risk recommendations. * Support Customer acquisition functions such as requirements development, request for proposals, and cost/technical/schedule/performance reports. * Perform and support systems engineering functions such as requirements definition, design review, test review, risk management, pedigree, hardware acceptance, verification, operations, anomaly resolution, and post-flight analyses. * Perform manufacturing/industrial engineering functions such as assessment of LV design, manufacturing methods, procedures, tooling, facilities, infrastructure, personnel qualifications, non-conformance assessment, material review boards, corrective action reports, calibration, environmental controls, quality assurance, non-destructive examinations, safety methods, regulations, supplier management, and transportation. * Prepare Customer team for, and support manufacturing operations and anomaly resolution. * Plan, coordinate, brief, support Engineer Review Boards, program reviews, and other meetings. * Perform technical and engineering data management, such as data mining and reporting. * Perform Training and Certification including course development, peer review, training, mentoring. * Collaborate with USAF System Program Offices, Aerospace Corporation, Launch Vehicle Contractors (LVCs), Subcontractors, Launch Sites, and Defense Contract Management Agency (DCMA). * Prepare weekly and other written evaluations and reports of a technical nature.
