Salary: $60,000 / year

The Safety Specialist will support and assist in driving the implementation of the company's safety related initiatives. Working closely with senior managers within Vinfen, including members of the Quality and Compliance Department, Facilities Department, and Human Resources Department, the Specialist will be charged with supporting the ongoing risk assessments, assisting in the development of systems to capture and analyze data, enhancements to the safety related infrastructure and work to ensure the implementation of a broad set of safety initiatives and ensure compliance with both CT and MA state mandated safety rules and regulations.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Working within the Facilities Department and with operations managers, drive the

development of Emergency Response Plans for all administrative office locations and day

programs. Conduct site visits to identify areas of safety concerns on property, safe rooms,

additional lighting needs, and develop and implement emergency notification process.

  • Supports the development and assists in driving the implementation of specific safety related projects.

  • Assists in developing and leading a multi-divisional Safety Committee with

responsibility for developing the cadence of the meeting agendas, managing the meetings,

identifies and resolves issues. Works across multiple divisions to track progress and report

back to senior management.

  • Assists Inspection Manager with communication, tracking and organization of needed

external inspections.

  • Assists with tracking the status and eventual completion of physical site licensing

deficiencies.

  • Reviews existing safety reports (including workers' compensation reports, incident reports,

facility, and safety check lists as well as OSHA requirements) along with newly developed

data to identify trends or areas of concern. Identifies possible safety strategies and solutions

and work with senior managers to resolve issues.

  • Helps create and update safety related policies and procedures. Identifies gaps in existing

policies, identify best practices, and make recommendations for updates.

  • Perform other duties, as required.

  • High school diploma or GED required. Associate's degree in a human services discipline preferred.

  • Two to three years' experience successfully leading projects and/or teams. Experience in Human Services, understanding of work environment. In some instances, experience may be substituted for academic training.

  • Knowledge of safety standards and regulatory issues preferred

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite

  • Excellent organizational, time management, attention to detail and problem-solving skills

  • Knowledge of Vinfen programs, policies, and systems

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and customer relations skills

  • Ability to manage and function effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team

  • Effective oral and written skills

  • Must be able to successfully pass a Multi-state CORI background check, reference check, employment verifitcation check, and education check.
