In this position, you will be the face of our company, and the voice of safety. The Safety Coach directly supports the installers whose hands assemble, install, and maintain solar photovoltaic (PV) systems on our customers' roofs. Safety Coaches are supported by a comprehensive team of professionals that are devoted to making our employees successful.

The Safety Coach is responsible for coaching field operations and sales team members to exhibit behaviors and work processes that create a safe work environment. Safety Coaches perform field audits which are an opportunity to learn about the field and coach employees to perform at their best and create safe work behaviors and practices.

A Sunrun Safety Coach is the face of safety for the field installation teams.

Here's what you'll do as part of our team:

  • Exemplify and promote a culture of safety at Sunrun

  • Provide EH&S regulatory and technical expertise to employees and management

  • Conduct site safety audits in the field, warehouses and corporate offices.

  • Coordinate with Sunrun training team to Develop and conduct training to address regional risks.

  • Act as a point of contact for addressing employee concerns regarding health and safety

  • Create Policy and Procedures for EH&S requirements and recommendations

  • Investigate incidents to identify root causes, determine how they might be prevented in the future, and communicate those findings to team members through written safety bulletins

  • Implement initiatives designed to reduce injury trends in certain locales or job functions

  • Inspect residential project sites, warehouses, offices, and vehicles for compliance with Sunrun safety policy and OSHA regulations

  • Ensure disciplinary actions are followed through when violations are found

  • Evaluate EHS regulatory compliance of subcontractors and build partners

  • Travel overnight 25-50% of the time


And here are the skills & experience you will need to be successful:

  • At least 3 years of experience in general industry, construction, engineering or electrical trade work.

  • Strong knowledge of safety regulations for construction and general industry (Federal, OSHA, and the basics of other state programs).

  • Subject matter expertise in the areas of fall protection, electrical safety, heat illness prevention, safe driving techniques, power tool use and ergonomics.

  • Be a self-motivated team player who strives to make a positive impact on the safe performance and overall success of Sunrun.

  • Cross-functional partnership skills with human resources, operations, warehouse logistics, and sales staff to drive a culture of safety throughout the organization;

  • Maintain a high level of professionalism with regard to professional presence, internal communication and customer interaction;

  • Experience in developing and delivering professional presentations to line employees and leaders

  • Good knowledge of data analysis techniques and risk assessment;

  • Familiarity with the insurance industry, specifically Workers' Compensation claims


  • Ability to transport materials and equipment to complete assigned job tasks (up to 50 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds with assistance)

  • Ability to work at heights and climb extension ladders and work in attics/crawlspaces and on pitched rooftops

  • Ability to work safely on construction jobsites, and warehouses

  • Ability to operate office equipment including computers

  • Ability to positively interact with co-workers and participate in meetings

  • Ability to work in outdoor weather conditions

  • Ability to travel commercially on air and road as directed or required

  • Ability to drive with a clean driving record

Minimum Requirements * Bachelors Degree + 8 years of relevant experience or AA/AS +10 years of relevant experience or HS/GED + 12 years of relevant experience. * Extensive experience in electrical substation hook-up and commissioning, general construction, excavation/trenching, lifting plans, use of mobile apps to collect data and conduct investigations. * Experience in reviewing and drafting site safety work plans and procedures. * Must possess a valid driver's license and clean driving record. * Must pass a State and Federal criminal history/security pre-employment background check. * Must pass pre-employment drug screen. * Physically able, with or without an accommodation, to work in indoor and outdoor environments with uneven terrain and variable conditions including heat, cold, noise, and working in the presence of heavy, moving, dangerous equipment; position requires frequent standing/walking, vehicle operation, stair climbing and keyboard/mouse operations; often performing repetitive bending & stooping; occasionally using portable ladders, and lifting less than 25 pounds or less; rarely working with arms above shoulder level, power gripping/squeezing (and tools, levers, etc.), working at heights, performing repetitive or fine hand movements, and lifting 25 to 50 pounds.
