The Safety Specialist assists in the oversight of a small or mid-sized division's safety, health and environmental programs. The Specialist will work closely with their offsite Safety Manager to develop location programs, policies, and training materials. The role requires the specialist to train employees at orientation, on the job, and at monthly divisional meetings. The specialist ensures that the facility maintains compliance with current regulations and works with their offsite Safety Manager to identify results to issues that are identified. The Specialist collaborates with managers and safety leaders at other divisions, as appropriate, to improve safety performance and culture at the division.
Associates or Bachelor's degree is safety related field or 2 years of related work experience.
Demonstrated ability in collecting and analyzing data, preparing reports, and training employees.
Outstanding problem-solving skills.
Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills (both written and verbal).
Proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Must be able to flex hours to temporarily work any shift.
Must be available to travel out of state 1-2 weeks per year.
Customer focused and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse work community.
Certified Occupational Hygiene Safety Technician (OHST), Certified Safety Trained Supervisor (STS) or Certified Occupational Safety Specialist (COSS)
General knowledge of typical plant machinery and material handling equipment.
