We are currently recruiting for a Night Shift Safety Specialist for our New Jersey location. The Safety Specialist is accountable for building a cohesive safety environment and leading the manufacturing activities in accordance with McWane, Inc. safety programs and OSHA regulations. Ensures all safety incidents are investigated, well-documented and assist in implementation of response actions to eliminate any further incidents from occurring.

Responsibilities

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to):

  • Assure compliance with OSHA, State Safety Regulations, and Corporate and Divisional Safety Policies. Compliance includes facilities, performance, and procedural issues.

  • Plan and implement safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal OSHA rules and regulations.

  • Provide assistance in implementing and maintaining programs to train managers and employees in work site safety practices such as, (not a comprehensive list) emergency procedures, fire prevention, and accurate handling techniques for materiels, chemicals, toxins, equipment.

  • Inspect organization facilities to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards, determine corrective or preventative measures where indicated, and follows up to ensure measures have been implemented.

  • Provide informative material, signs, posters, barriers, to warn of potential and actual safety hazards to mitigate hazardous conditions when they cannot be eliminated.

  • Maintains safety files and records.

  • Periodically review legal and other requirements to recommend modifications due to changes.

  • Assist in crafting and maintaining the Health & Safety training process.

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate programs and procedures to ensure personnel and facility safety.

  • Monitors and controls company's safety standards per OSHA and state regulations.

  • Promptly investigate industrial accidents to minimize recurrence and prepares accident reports.

  • Examine plan and specifications for new machinery/equipment to confirm all safety precautions have been included.

  • Evaluate personnel activities working on machinery/equipment to identify hazards.

  • Tours plant to inspect fire and safety equipment, machinery, and facilities; to identify and correct potential hazards; and to ensure compliance with safety regulations.

  • Assist as needed to conduct and/or coordinate safety training to educate workers about safety policies, laws, and practices.

  • Any other task as advised by Manager.

Qualifications

  • Degree in safety or health related or similar fiel; Bachelors preferred

  • Preferred: 1-3 years of previous work experience in a heavy manufacturing environment

  • Work with all personnel levels in a professional, respectful manner

  • Understand and interpret federal (including OSHA), state and local regulations, and all company safety policies

  • Work in a self-directed manner and follow all work directives and safety procedures

  • For safe and effective performance;and the successful operation of the business, the qualified candidate must read and communicate moderately in English.
