Position Description

As a Safety Specialist III, you will be responsible for working within the framework of a team and performing the following activities:

  • Write Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) plans, policies, and procedures.

  • Advise and instruct on safety-related topics, including hearing conservation, chemicals, laser safety, and confined spaces.

  • Conduct building audits and risk assessments and administer preventative measures.

  • Review existing policies and update according to legislation Inspect premises and personnel work to identify non-conformity and signage and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) issues.

  • Provide safety support for Applied Medical Orange County and Nevada campuses.

  • Investigate incidents to determine root cause and identify steps to prevent recurrence Follow up on prevention actions from incident investigations.

  • Prepare reports on occurrences and provide statistical analysis to upper management.

  • Monitor compliance to policies and laws by inspecting and reviewing manufacturing processes Inspect equipment and machinery to observe possible unsafe conditions.

  • Recommend solutions to issues, improvement opportunities, or new prevention measures.

  • Perform safety training with team leaders Understand and comply with Applied Medical's Quality Systems, per training.

  • Assist Safety Specialists and Corporate Safety Administrator in overseeing all safety aspects.

  • Assist in evaluating practices, procedures, and facilities to assess risk and adherence to the law.

  • Assist in developing health and safety plans in the workplace according to legal guidelines.

Position Requirements

This position requires the following skills and attributes:

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent.

  • Excellent knowledge of data analysis and risk assessment.

  • Adept at producing reports and developing relevant policies.

  • Strong problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent attention to detail and observation ability.

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Power Point.

  • Computer proficient, with the ability to use copiers and general office equipment.

  • Experience in Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, such as Systems, Applications, and Products in Data Processing (SAP).

Preferred

The following skills and attributes are preferred:

  • Proficient in California Division of Occupational Safety and Health (Cal/OSHA) Title 8 regulations.

  • Associate Safety Professional (ASP) Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety.

  • Minimum of three years' experience in Occupational Health and Safety.
