Position Summary
The Safety Specialist is responsible for monitoring and enforcing GO Riteway company policy and procedure, in coordination with laws and regulations, to ensure the safest operation in the most proactive manner possible.
Essential Duties
Work in conjunction with terminal operation team to ensure all safety procedures are being implemented and followed. Work with staff to improve safety awareness and maintain a safe workplace.
Investigate all safety concerns, incidents, accidents. When necessary, work with local law enforcement. Investigation of all crashes and incidents.
Conduct road observations of driving staff and provide appropriate feedback.
Assist in terminal functions, activities, and programs that support safe, on-time, and consistent service to customers.
Understands and uses the routing system to plan and manage routes that meet specific district requirements, are safe, maximize resources and meet operational needs for the District and GO Riteway.
Partners with key stakeholders to maintain internal and external relationships that reinforce a safety culture.
Implement, structure, and coordinate training programs to be used consistently throughout the organization. Present training modules company-wide.
Identify Best Practices and recommend strategies that contribute to on-going safety and operational improvement.
Maintain awareness of industry trends and best practices related to driver training and safety. Provide recommendations to ensure the company's training and safety programs are designed to be best in class. attract top talent and retain valued employees.
Maintain knowledge of changing laws and regulations that may impact the company. Implement and communicate updates as necessary.
Working Relationships
The Safety Specialist reports directly to the Safety Director. This position is required to work closely and collaboratively with Operations Team Members, especially Management and Drivers.
Skill and Knowledge Requirements
Must be able to obtain and/or retain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a "P" and "S" endorsement.

Comprehensive knowledge of state and federal laws, regulations, legislation and best practices applicable to Safety
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and/or related software
Demonstrated ability to quickly establish rapport, build credibility, and create partnerships at all levels within the company
Education Requirements
Experience Requirements
Minimum 2 years' experience providing safety compliance in a transportation industry
Minimum 2 years' developing and administering training programs to adult learners
Physical Demands
Work is performed in a general office environment with limited noise exposure. Occasional exposure to outdoor elements (temperature, dust) found within a warehouse/school bus terminal environment. The majority of time is spent seated at a work station with access to telephone, computer, printer, and files. Requires frequent verbal communication either in person or by telephone to interact with candidates, employees, and recruiting partners. Requires ability to occasionally lift up to ten pounds when handling files and binders. Duties entail some visual strain resulting from close detail and frequent computer work. Limited local travel to other school bus locations for assistance with payroll and benefits communication and education.
Mental Demands
Work entails average to above average mental demands. Duties involve handling multiple priorities (processing payroll, benefits administration, invoicing, and enrollments, etc), adherence to strict time deadlines, and interpretation and analyzation of data. Some duties are highly stressful such as dealing with sensitive employee information and conflicting, changing priorities. Must be able to maintain strict confidentiality and diplomacy in a high profile environment.
