JOB SUMMARY: The safety specialist interacts with all Lewis employees engaged in all facets of vegetation management. The Safety Specialist coaches and counsels employees to ensure 100% compliance with company practices and procedures and to further the company's total safety culture.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: None
Conducts on-site field visits with Lewis field workers and safety team.
Conducts and coordinates within operations team worker training in safety regulations, hazardous conditions, and company policies.
Monitors the safe operations of vegetation management practices, company vehicles and equipment.
Assists with Total Safety Culture events, CPR/First Aid instruction, defensive driving instruction and any safety-related training.
Assists with safety on boarding of new field employees.
Assists with incident investigations and analyses.
Assists leadership teams with training initiatives.
Assists in authoring written weekly and monthly safety documents.
Participates on safety conference calls within operating divisions/areas of coverage.
Attends safety related meetings and conference calls sponsored by our customers.
Attends conferences to advance industry knowledge and obtain required CEUs.
Travel as assigned.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Associate's degree in a related field or other recognized safety credentials such as CUSP, CTSP, or ISA Arborist.
Five years of line clearance experience.
Obtain Certified Tree Care Safety Professional credential.
Driver's License is required (CDL is preferred). Must be familiar with large vehicle regulations.
TECHNOLOGY, EQUIPMENT & TOOLS:
Proficient with standard office equipment i.e. computer, phones, scanner, fax and copier.
Proficient presentation skills; effectively present to large audiences in conjunction with translators.
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite; Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook.
Smart phone and tablet knowledge.
Experience with digital cameras and projectors.
Competent in the care and use of utility line clearance tree tools such as Saws (Chain and hand) pruners, hanger poles, ropes and rigging tools, saddles, full body harnesses, aerial lifts, chippers, and all applicable personal protective equipment.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Proficient knowledge of safe work practices for line clearance tree work.
Proficient knowledge of LTS Safety and Training Manual.
Proficient knowledge of regulations; OSHA 1910.269 and ANSI Z133
Ability to coach and counsel field workers by providing both positive and negative feedback.
Aware of the company's methodology for a total safety culture.
Possess effective written and verbal communication skills. Bi-lingual in English/Spanish preferred.
Proficient presentation skills.
Ability to train new and experienced employees.
