Summary

Successful candidates will be responsible for developing a positive and continuously improving plant safety culture via the engagement of all personnel from plant director, managers, and supervisors as well as logistic, production, and maintenance personnel; the ability to problem-solve issues and formulate new ideas to meet safety criterion and key performance indicators; provide proper and accurate documentation and provide pertinent information to all stakeholders; work with training manager on developing and maintaining web-based safety learning materials; fielding technical questions with regards to occupational health and safety standards; work closely with our on-site medical provider and show a desire to expand and participate in roles outside of safety.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform periodic audits of safety programs such as confined spaces, lock out tag out, fall protection, eye wash/chemical showers, job safety/hazard analysis, fire suppression systems, and other similar OSHA and ANSI standards.

  • Ability to communicate with employees on the floor of poaboutntial hazards and unsafe behaviors in a professional manner.

  • Provide educational resources and ideas to increase safety awareness

  • Act as a safety liaison and provide a high level of customer service to the entire Simplot Idaho campus

  • Respond and conduct incident investigations from injury, property damage, near misses, and hazards reported with effective action plans put in place to decrease incidents from re-occurring and decrease severity level.

  • Ability to effectively prepare and present information and training to adult learners for programs such as fall protection, aerial work platform certification, powered industrial truck certification, confine space entrance, lockout tagout, and other safety training as required.

  • Ability to work in a team environment as well as work independently

  • Ability to master computer software programs such as Enablon, JDE, Basic Safe, and Microsoft.

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, climb ladders and stairs, wear personal protective equipment including but not limited to: chemical wet suits, fryer suits, and fall protection; work in hot and cold environments; enter confined spaces; and work on elevated surfaces.

  • Good time management skills and ability to balance multiple, simultaneous assignments.

  • Develop and ensure practices are being followed for safety and food safety

  • Develop and create media content for site communications

  • Assist with plant security efforts

  • Have the ability to obtain Safety Trained Supervisor (STS), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Occupational Hygiene Safety Technician (OHST) and/or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) through Board of Certified Safety Professionals; and Lean and Green Belt Six Sigma Certification

Typical Education

Bachelor's Degree (B.A. or B.S.) from 4 year college or university; Relevant manufacturing or military experience maybe substituted for Bachelor's degree from a 4 year college or university

Relevant Experience

3+ years related experience and/or training

Required Certifications

Possess or is willing to pursue Board of Certified Safety Professionals, Occupational Health & Safety Technologist (OHST), or Associate Safety Professional/Certified Safety Professional (ASP/CSP).

Other Information

May provide leadership to less experienced specialists and to technicians through work assignments, monitoring schedules, and resolving problems.
