The Safety Specialist will drive and promote our Safety program management and initiatives by ensuring that regulations and workplace safety standards comply in accordance with corporate and regulatory requirements for our manufacturing site and communities.

Standard Duties :

  • Provide ongoing instruction of OSHA required safety disciplines to ensure employees have essential safety instructions before being placed in a hazardous job environment.

  • Present training in a variety of multi-media forms. Coordinate with Training Department to maintain accurate and up-to-date employee training records.

  • Interface with Management, Human Resources, and Insurance provider to input and follow workman's compensation claims.

  • Conduct safety audits and drills throughout the facility to identify and correct unsafe conditions and unsafe acts.

  • Monitor employee behavior within the assigned area and recommend remedial safety instructions as necessary to reduce workplace injuries and to improve regulatory compliance.

  • Participate in accident and incident investigations using photographs, employee interviews, and other relevant sources to determine root causes of an event. Write summaries and recommends corrective actions as necessary to prevent additional accidents. Perform follow-up on remediation as needed.

  • Communicate on a regular basis with various BorgWarner site Safety Specialists and other safety personnel to promote consistency in the application of safety policies and programs throughout the Company and share any safety related concerns.

  • Review and update Job Safety Analysis documents to identify and avoid work-related hazards by outlining specific work procedures required to perform each job safely and effectively.

  • Prepare department specific reports or maintain and update safety specific documents such as procedures manuals, material safety data sheets, etc.

  • Maintain database of all recordable incidents, near-misses, and relevant investigations. Track progress on action items generated from incident investigations, safety audits, and safety committee meetings. Schedule, monitor, and track action items resulting from required fire, severe weather, and Code Blue drills.

  • Facilitate safety committee meetings, and medical response team meetings.

  • Lead the Medical Response Team.

  • Provides guidance in one or more of the following: Emergency Response, Electrical Safety, Machine Guarding, or Hazard Assessment.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements:

  • Stand for prolonged periods of time.

  • Lifting shoulder high up to 35 lbs. repetitively.

  • Ability to work in a variety of environments.

  • Repetitive motion activities including but not limited to standing, lifting, loading/unloading carts.

Demonstrated knowledge and experience with ISO 45001, and ISO 14001.

Education & Experience

Education: Bachelor's Degree in a Science or Technical field of study required, Occupational Health and Safety preferred; Specialized Safety/OSHA certificates preferred.

Experience: Minimum 1-5 years required.

Computer Skills: Microsoft Office suite; SharePoint
