Job Description:
POSITION: Security Specialist
Job Goals and Responsibilities:
Directs the flow of traffic as assigned before the opening of school to after dismissal.
Directs the flow of traffic as assigned for before school activities as scheduled.
Set up and remove cones for traffic pattern for a.m. and p.m. traffic.
Maintains a check on vehicles and persons entering and leaving school grounds.
Patrols buildings and grounds to prevent vandalism and unauthorized entry.
Directs visitors and volunteers to sign in at the main office.
Confronts unauthorized persons for questioning with an administrator.
Assists in the movement of students in an emergency situation.
Checks and keeps entrance chains across designated areas.
Periodically patrols, inspects, and secures doors, windows and gates during the school day.
Monitors security cameras as directed by the administration.
Provide training in security and emergency procedures to staff, students, and parents/guardians, as appropriate.
Reports any unusual conditions on the campus or malfunctioning of equipment on the campus to the District Safety and Security Supervisor.
Notifies administrators of any situation requiring immediate or prompt attention.
Prepares written materials for the purpose of documenting student behavior activities, provide written reference of activities, and/or conveying information
Assists school administrators in containing students that are attempting to leave the school grounds.
Patrols school and school facilities (e.g grounds, roads, buildings, adjacent areas, parking lots, etc.) for the purpose of providing visibility and maintaining security to ensure student safety.
Intervenes in situations involving student safety and informs the teacher on the appropriate site personnel or an administrator of the incident for the purpose of ensuring follow-up in accordance with administrative, site security and student safety guidelines.
Conducts themselves in a courteous, professional manner with parents, staff and visitors.
Maintains an appropriate positive, professional relationship with students
Participates in meetings, in-service training and workshops to gather information required to perform job functions.
May assist in other duties as assigned by the school administration when students are not on campus
Wears a uniform as designated by Weston Public Schools.
Qualifications & Skills:
High School Diploma: college credits in security, criminal justice emergency management preferred.
Ability to work with and/or carry students needing movement or containment.
Ability to work outdoors for periods of time throughout the day.
Demonstrates aptitude and competence for assigned responsibilities.
Law enforcement experience strongly preferred having retired in good standing.
Connecticut Guard Card required (or able to obtain). Certified in CPR, First Aid and Basic Life Support preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to patrol the property and access areas quickly.
Physically able to capture and detain individuals if necessary.
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and monitoring surveillance equipmen
Reports to:
Reports to the District and Safety Security Supervisor
Evaluation in accordance with the provisions of the Board of Education's policy governing the performance evaluation of non-certified staff.
Terms
182 days, 8 hours per day, 5 days per week
Overtime available, as needed
Salary and benefits in accordance with the AFSCME Contract and Board of Education policy.
