We are seeking a proactive and skilled Safety & Risk Coordinator to join our Human Resources team. This role is essential in maintaining and enhancing our safety programs and managing risk to protect our employees and assets.

Position Overview:

The Safety & Risk Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing safety conditions across all City departments. You will work closely with various departments to address safety violations, manage workers' compensation claims, and develop comprehensive safety training programs. Your role will also involve collaborating with third-party administrators and insurers to handle claims and maintain up-to-date safety policies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Safety Program Management: Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive safety program, including conducting safety training to ensure compliance with safety standards.

  • Claim Monitoring: Oversee and monitor claims related to workers' compensation, auto property damage, and auto liability filed with third-party administrators.

  • Vendor Coordination: Contract with outside vendors for specialized safety training, such as backhoe operations and trenching.

  • Safety Activities Planning: Plan and organize safety activities that inform employees about City safety policies, procedures, and safe work practices.

  • Insurance Coordination: Work with insurers and adjusters to manage open insurance claims and complete the annual insurance re-rate packet. Keep the City auto schedule current.

  • Workers' Compensation: Process and monitor workers' compensation claims, manage medical treatment, and coordinate light duty assignments. Work with occupational clinics to set up Functional Capacity Evaluations (FCE) for City jobs.

  • Drug/Alcohol Testing: Administer employee drug/alcohol testing programs (DOT and non-DOT) and provide training on drug/alcohol policies. Act as a Designated Employer Representative (DER) for DOT drug/alcohol test results.

  • Emergency Response: Act as essential personnel and report to the City Emergency Operations Center (EOC) during activations.

  • Compliance: Maintain all necessary licenses, certifications, clearances, and job requirements without interruption.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Safety Management, or a related field.

  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in safety and workers' compensation.

  • License: Valid Texas Driver's License.

  • Training: Complete DOT Designated Employer Representative (DER) training within 90 days of employment.

The City of Pasadena offers very generous benefits to all full-time employees. For example:

  • Employee-only medical insurance starts as low as $15 per month and the most expensive Employee & Family plan is less than $350 per month.

  • The City has its own medical clinic staffed with a M.D. and two medical assistants. Employees and their covered dependents over the age of 5 can visit the clinic FREE OF CHARGE.

  • Employees and their covered dependents also have access to Virtual Visits with a medical professional FREE OF CHARGE.

  • The City offers college tuition reimbursement of up to $3,500 per year.

  • As an employee, you will contribute a portion of your salary each pay-period towards your retirement and the City will match your contribution by 200%. Example, if you contribute $100, the City will contribute $200.

  • Civilian employees accumulate vacation at the following rates:

  • Less than 6 years of service - two weeks of vacation per year.

  • From 6 to less than 11 years of service - three weeks of vacation per year.

  • From 11 to less than 21 years of service - four weeks of vacation per year.

  • From 21 to less than 26 years of service - five weeks of vacation per year.

  • From 26 years of service and up - six weeks of vacation per year.
