Nature of Work
This is highly responsible administrative and technical work coordinating a citywide safety and accident prevention program. Work involves the responsibility for planning and promoting the accident prevention program of the City.
Work includes conducting inspections of City facilities, equipment, working conditions, safety devices and vehicles. Emphasis of the work is on the promotion of a citywide program of employee safety education through training and established methods and techniques. Work is performed with considerable independence within the framework of established safety practices and procedures, departmental, and city administrative policies.
An employee in this position will monitor and assist departments to carry out policies concerning the establishment of a citywide safety program that is applicable to bargaining unit employees. This employee will report to the Safety Manager or designee.
Essential Functions
Develops accident prevention and loss control methods, procedures, and programs.
Participates in the investigation of employee accidents and public liability accidents. Reviews reports of injuries, property damage, occupational diseases, and public liability accidents.
Compiles, analyzes, and interprets accident statistical data and prepares reports designed to communicate this information to those personnel charged with the responsibility of the operation of the various departments and divisions.
Provides technical assistance on safety matters to all departments.
Inspects equipment, facilities, and work practices for hazardous or unsafe working conditions.
Conducts accident investigations and performs root cause analysis.
Interprets application of regulatory items in individual cases and recommends alternate methods where indicated.
Provides technical information and advice in the development of safety regulations.
Conducts training sessions related to safety programs.
Discusses safety measures with department heads; plans and recommends safe working procedures and equipment for employees.
Performs other related work as required.
Minimum Requirements
A Bachelor's degree and four (4) years experience planning and administrating safety and accident prevention programs, preferably with some experience conducting oral presentations. A valid driver's license from any state may be utilized upon application, however prior to appointment a State of Florida Driver's License (Class E or higher) must be presented to the Department of Human Resources. A CSP (Certified Safety Professional) designation is desirable.
OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience beyond a high school diploma or its equivalent and two (2) years of the required experience.

To qualify under the equivalency clause, applicant must provide proof of education in one or more of the following applicable forms: High school diploma or its equivalent, or transcript showing at least 60 college credits, or Associate's degree or higher.
2.Copy of valid Driver's License from any state (Equivalent to a State of Florida Class E) may be utilized upon application, however, a State of Florida Driver's License (Class E or higher) is required at time of appointment and must be maintained valid throughout employment.

Selection Preference for City Residents: In accordance with APM 2-02, applicants for classified positions who are City of Miami residents and new hires will receive preference in selection from interview ranking bands provided that any two (2) of the following documents are submitted with the employment application and again at time of interview:
