What You'll Do:

Champion Safety. Take an active role prioritizing safety for yourself and others to ensure all assigned plants have zero accidents and are in total compliance with all Vulcan and MSHA policies and procedures.

Conduct Inspections and Audits. Conduct MSHA and OSHA compliance inspections, audits, and accident/incident investigations.

Develop inspection and audit checklists. Participate in management systems audits and plant inspections. Assist the divisions in developing, implementing, and auditing management systems to prevent losses. Track and follow-up audit findings.

Monitor Health and Safety Regulations. Stay ahead of all existing and proposed changes in occupational health and safety regulations. Interpret and apply MSHA and OSHA regulations to all plants and operations.

Identify Risks. Identify and evaluate risks associated with surface or underground mining, asphalt, ready-mix, heavy-duty ships, transportation, and processing of construction materials.

Investigate Accidents. Participate in investigations of accidents and near misses and the identification of root causes and corrective actions. Maintain a database of accurate injury and safety information.

Administer Programs and Training. Assist in developing and administering programs, such as Division and Company Safety and Health Programs and Policies, the Industrial Hygiene/Occupational Health program, Emergency Response Planning, the Continuous Materials Inventory program, Accident Prevention Initiatives, and Regulatory Compliance training.

Collaborate with Others. Work closely to establish effective relationships with customers, co-workers, contractors, suppliers, and government officials that reflect and support company core values and meet or exceed Vulcan's safety expectations.


Skills You'll Need:

Experience. Must have experience in an industrial environment or mining/aggregates industry in either surface or underground operations.

Education. BA/BS is required, preferably in human resources, business, safety and health, industrial hygiene, organizational development, or a related field. CSP or CMSP preferred.

Operational Knowledge. Knowledge of mining, asphalt, ready-mix concrete, and/or landfill operations is preferred.

Must have knowledge in prevention methods for incidents, occupational injuries, illnesses, and property loss. Must demonstrate knowledge of Loss Control principles.

Regulation Knowledge. Must have a working knowledge of MSHA, OSHA general industry and construction, ATF, and DOT regulations.

Problem-Solving Skills. Must possess excellent hazard recognition skills, working with different partners to address the challenges and problems ensuring accurate, safe, and efficient solutions.

Technology Skills. Must have strong computer skills, including Word, PowerPoint, Access, Excel, and cell phones. Must be able to use various and highly sophisticated computerized devices.

Has program responsibility to assure that assigned organizations meet Federal Aviation Regulations with respect to maintenance, preventive maintenance, and alteration programs. Assists in the establishment of work programs for inspection and surveillance. Travel Required 25% or less - The job may require up to 25% travel. Supervisory status No Promotion Potential 14 * Job family (Series) 1825 Aviation Safety * Requirements Help Requirements Conditions of Employment * US Citizenship is required. * Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959. * Must submit an SF50 (See Required Documents) Qualifications Applicants must meet the minimum eligibility requirements for an Aviation Safety Inspector in the 1825 series as outlined in the OPM qualification standards. The minimum eligibility requirements for this position are below. General Requirements for All Applicants: 1. Not more than two separate incidents involving Federal aviation regulations violations in the last 5 years; 2. Valid State driver's license; 3. Fluency in the English language; 4. No chemical dependencies or drug abuse that could interfere with job performance; and 5. High school diploma or equivalent. Medical Requirements for All Applicants: Applicants must be physically able to perform the duties of the Aviation Safety Inspector in a safe and efficient manner, and meet all of the following requirements: 1. Have good distant vision in each eye and be able to read printed materials the size of typewritten characters (glasses and contact lenses permitted) without strain; 2. Have the ability to hear the conversational voice (hearing aid permitted); 3. Not have any physical condition that would cause them to be a hazard to themselves or others or that would interfere with their ability to fly as passengers in a variety of aircraft. AND In addition to meeting the minimum requirements, applicants must have one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression (FG-13/GS-13 or Pay Band I), Specialized Experience must include, but is not limited to: * Maintenance experience on 14 CFR part 121 aircraft and associated components. * Evaluating and deciding upon proposals to change the authorized programs of organizations. * Monitoring, planning or conducting inspection programs. * Assuring that assigned organizations are properly and adequately organized, staffed, and equipped; have and conduct an adequate training program, including an acceptable record keeping system; and have facilities and procedures that meet all regulatory requirements. * Responsible for the conduct of enforcement investigations and preparation of final reports and recommendations on disposition. Applicants for Aviation Safety Inspector Air Carrier (Maintenance) positions must meet all of the following requirements. * Experience involving the maintenance and repair of airframes, power plants, and systems of multi-engine aircraft of more than 12,500 pounds maximum certificated takeoff weight maintained under an airworthiness maintenance and inspection program. * Aircraft maintenance experience in a repair station; air carrier or airline repair facility; military repair facility; or local, state, or Federal governmental agency. * Experience involving the maintenance and repair of airframes, power plants, and aircraft systems with responsibility for certifying airworthiness. * Aircraft maintenance work experience within the last 3 years. * FAA Mechanic Certificate with airframe and power plant ratings.
