Position Summary:

Ensures compliance with all company safety policies and procedures, Department of Transportation (DOT) safety regulations and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR). Manages employees who are responsible for compliance relating hours of service auditing, responding to ELD Hotline calls, van operator and agency safety evaluation systems, monitoring van operator telemetrics and log scanning/auditing processing of more than 1 million logs annually. Requires superior organizational and managerial skills to ensure execution of a multitude of safety functions. Responsible for assessment of fines for untimely log submissions, chargebacks for licensing fees, and problem-solving agency/van operator performance issues. Produces and distributes safety statistical information and materials to assist agents/van operators in improving safety performance. Provides quality service to agents and van operators in the safety area. Interacts with various industry safety management councils.

The work location for this role is flexible if approved by UniGroup expect this position may not be performed remotely from Colorado and California.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Complies with all company, state and federal policies and procedures to include DOT and FMCSA regulations.

  • Manages employees to ensure compliance with all company, state and federal policies in the areas of safety evaluation systems, accident analysis/prevention, and log processing.

  • Assumes responsibility for the effective operation of the Safety department and effectiveness of the United Van Lines and Mayflower Transit safety effort.

  • Coordinates the safety effort with the dispatching of vehicles in the Operations department.

  • Assists in safety training of the van operators, agency associates and Home Office associates.

  • Resolves procedures or non-compliance problems, and makes recommendations for agents/van operator retention in United and Mayflower service.

  • Institutes programs to monitor and improve compliance and the quality of safety performance.

  • Identifies problems and trends, initiates corrective action, trains through seminars, sets goals, prepares profiles, and monitors progress.

  • Assumes responsibility of meeting the UniGroup Safety Department objectives and UniGroup Goals.

  • Supervises the creation and participates in executing written and live safety compliance content related to current safety trends.

  • Ability to analyze multiple high volume data sources to maximize audit functions, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel.

  • Need for highly organized leader of people, processes and information.

  • Performs a variety of other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education, License or Certification:

  • Bachelor's degree in Safety, Transportation or equivalent experience.

Experience:

  • 6-8 years experience in safety with two years in a management capacity
