POSITION PURPOSE:

The Safety Manager is responsible for implementing the organization's Safety Program. Works with personnel throughout the organization to maintain a safe and healthy work environment for all of Umpqua Indian Development Corporation companies. Conducts periodic on-site facility audits and inspections to check for compliance with Federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines, and Tribal Law, & Ordinance Codes. Investigates the root causes of accidents and prepares reports with the findings and works closely on hazard mitigation.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Continue to develop and manage the Safety Program.

  • Identify and implement policy requirements and enhancements.

  • Conduct safety inspections and audits throughout all of UIDC's properties.

  • Conduct food safety inspections of food outlets.

  • Mentors management teams to minimize employee and customer injuries.

  • Required to fully comply with Tribal Worker' Compensation Codes and Tribal Ordinances, UIDC rules and regulations for the safe and efficient operations of all properties.

  • Initiates Workers Compensation claims process, tracks costs associated with them monthly.

  • Manages general liability, property claims and initiates damages claims from outside guest incidents.

  • Provides a working knowledge of lock-out tag out and the de-energization of that equipment.

  • Provides and/or facilitates safety and health training.

  • Maintains Safety Data Sheets for all businesses and keeps them updated in Velocity EHS software.

  • Prepares and administers safety training for powered industrial trucks.

  • Administrator for drivers program for all businesses.

  • Coordinates Blood Borne Pathogens training and protection for all team members.

  • Coordinates all OSHA Annual Safety Trainings and refreshes when applicable.

  • Mitigates program for workplace respiratory safety program. Perform fit tests for team members.

  • Serves as Safety Committee chairperson, plans for meeting materials monthly.

  • Coordinates Safety Committee offsite trainings to further the development of the Safety Committee.

  • Provides recommendations for the Safety budget.

  • Establishes contact with guests, to resolve health and safety complaints.

  • Coordinates light duty assignments in relation to Workers' Compensation claims.

  • Liaison with regulatory agencies.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 3-5 years Safety management/coordination experience.

  • Bachelor's degree in health and safety, Industrial Hygiene, or related field preferred. May be substituted for years of experience.

  • Food Handlers License required.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Computer literate, able to use Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and various software training programs.

  • Ability to conduct workplace ergonomic assessments.

  • Knowledge of OSHA standards and applications.

  • Knowledge of hazard communications and Personal Protective Equipment guidelines.

  • Knowledge of Federal SDS record keeping requirements.

  • Knowledge and skill in the use of friction devices to measure surfaces in facilities.

  • Knowledge of, or ability to learn Electrical Safety and Codes associated with facilities.

  • Knowledge of, or ability to learn local fire codes, standpipe, sprinkler and interior fire alarm systems.

  • Knowledge of, or ability to learn workplace respiratory safety program - able to become fit test trained.

  • Knowledge of, or ability to learn food service applications for food outlets.

  • Knowledge of, or ability to learn Powered Industrial Truck programs and facilitate training.

  • Ability to perform duties in confined spaces.

  • Current and valid driver's license with the ability to qualify for the UIDC's Drivers Program.

  • Must have the ability to obtain a Class III Gaming License.

Salary Description

$65,000-$80,000/year
