POSITION SUMMARY

The Safety Intern will provide support to the Safety and Occupational Health Department by working on a variety of safety related projects while gaining exposure to a variety of functional areas within the organization.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1.Conduct written program/procedure reviews and develop training curriculums based on these programs.
2.Assist with accident investigations and follow-up with required corrective action.
3.Develop and/or update safety and health training programs for various business units.
4.Provide daily support to the safety department on a variety of safety projects.
5.Actively participate and lead events with the Safety Committees.
6.Assist and conduct internal compliance and injury reduction assessments to include follow through.
7.Participate in workers compensation claim reviews.
8.Quantify and present safety & health statistics to the management team.
9.Assist with the coordination of the Return-to-Work program.
10. Support and manage the SMS (Safety Management System) corporate safety initiative.
11. All other duties and projects as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Student in a Sophomore standing or greater working towards a Bachelor's degree in Safety and Occupational Health or related field.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite required (strong excel skills).

Willing to travel or relocate to Dodge Center, MN

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.

Ability to learn new programs quickly while working in a fast-paced work environment.

Outstanding communication, organizational, and leadership skills are essential.

Familiar with manufacturing and safety principles is a plus.

Ability to work independently when necessary

SUMMARY This role will partner with stakeholders within the Commercial segment to develop and lead projects and tasks identified within the Commercial Segment and with Oshkosh Corporation Product Safety functions. The main duties to include the management and processing of data related to Product Safety events and the development and implementation of a Product Safety process into Commercial segment and Corporate to support the OOS requirements. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES * Knowledge of Industry regulations, standards, and recommended practices: * Be familiar with applicable industry standards (any). * Ability to manage execute reporting required for regulatory compliance: * Gather, process, and retention of supporting data & reports * Generation of required reports * Support recall events: * Identify issues, root cause, and corrective actions * Manage field actions * Support product field investigations: * Review and assess incident * Communicate findings * Support segment & corporate Product Safety legal activities, as needed/appropriate: * Product liability cases – discovery, assessment, technical support, case preparation, testimony * Support and/or participate in investigations * Support of company Product Safety processes and standards, tools, and procedures: * Assist in development of processes and standards * Perform assessment of compliance to defined processes and standards * Product Safety website * Training material * Guidelines * Support the development of product and manufacturing processes: * Ensure product complies with standards and regulations * Ensure processes to produce product provide for consistent compliance of product, free of potential product safety issues. * Support the development and use of company information to remain consistent with defined policies: * Owner & service manuals * Marketing material * Technical/Engineering information * Support Corporate functions and other segment needs as required/requested. * Represent segment and/or corporation at outside conferences involving Product Safety, as needed. * Have the physical ability to get in & out of company products unaided, climb access ladders on machines, be able to evaluate the product which may include climbing to a height. * Perform other duties as prescribed by supervisor. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS * Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent * Seven (7) or more years of experience in a related field (auto, aero, ag or construction equipment) * Direct Product Safety experience or supporting function (design engineering, product testing, product/quality assurance) * Experience developing, administering and managing business processes, problem solving and root cause analysis, communications, working at all levels of an organization. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS * Strong skills to influence organizations to achieve goals, without authority or personnel to perform tasks. * Product safety or design experience, with majority of experience in automotive or heavy truck/equipment industry. * Training and Experience in Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and/or Risk Analysis * Skill in managing database, data processing, and statistical methods * 2-3 years' experience in vehicle design, prefer heavy truck * Experience with ISO quality systems * Strong skills to interact with other team members, with business understanding and common goals. * Detailed oriented person, able to manage multiple projects or undefined projects * Strong written and verbal communication skills.
