Position Description:

Barrick is looking for a Safety & Health Specialist to join our team.


Reporting to the Safety & Health Supervisor, the Safety & Health Specialist is responsible for the following:

  • Develop safety related training and facilitate safety training sessions to include: New Hire, Hazard, and Annual Refresher Training

  • Assist site supervision with area Safety and Health Inspections/Audits

  • Participate in regulatory inspections as the Safety and Health Subject Matter Expert (SME)

  • Act as the Safety and Health SME during root cause investigations

  • Follow-up and audit assigned safety incident corrective actions, audit site contractor adherence to TRJV Safety & Health Standards

  • Participate in Formal and High Level Risk Assessments

  • Coach and Mentor employee's based safety teams

  • Seek out and act on personal development and education opportunities

  • Provide support to fellow Safety and Health team

  • Perform other duties as assigned


  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety and Health Industrial Hygiene or related field or S&H or IH experience or equivalent education and experience preferred

  • Ability to work with and communicate to all levels of management and federal agencies required

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively multi-task in a fast paced, demanding environment required

  • Proven safe work record required

  • Ability to drive results and ensure completion of time sensitive deadlines required

  • Ability to use Microsoft Office software systems required

  • Valid Driver's License required

  • Previous MSHA/ Instructor training experience (blue card) preferred

  • Knowledge of MSHA standard/ regulations preferred

  • Surface and Underground mining experience preferred

  • Industrial Hygiene general knowledge preferred

VIEW JOBS 11/25/2018 12:00:00 AM 2019-02-23T00:00 The Position Conservation Crew Supervisors supervise inmate crews, maintain security, and provide training in equipment use and safety in completing projects in resource conservation, fire management and community service. Incumbents perform in a continuing trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation. The Division of Forestry's mission is to provide professional natural resource and wildland fire management services to enhance, conserve and protect forest, rangeland and watershed values, endangered plants and other native flora. The Division of Forestry has a unique partnership with the Department of Corrections to train and provide labor skills in natural resource and wildland fire management to minimum security inmates to help rehabilitate and reduce return rates. Under the supervision of the Conservation Camp Supervisor, this position supervises and directs up to 12 inmate crew members on natural resource conservation projects and wildland fire suppression incidents. Conservation projects can include but are not limited to timber stand improvement, timber harvest, insect and disease abatement, vegetative fuels reduction, tree planting, reclamation of wildfire damaged lands, riparian enhancement, watershed and range improvement, wildlife habitat enhancement, park maintenance, prescribed fire fuel reduction projects, and application of herbicide and pesticide for noxious weed and insect control. Wildland Fire response can be required in and out of state for durations up to 21 days. NWCG qualifications are required to be obtained and/or maintained for the duration of employment commensurate with the level of Crew Supervisor filled. Conservation crew supervisors supervise and evaluate crew member skill levels; plan, assign and review work; brief crew regarding work requirements and processes, job hazards and safety standards; direct projects to ensure timely completion and production rates are met; identify problems and take corrective action; and ensure the custody and security of crew members. Crew supervisors also compile data and prepare records and reports related to project outcomes and accomplishments; equipment usage, maintenance and repair; and crew member evaluations, training and cohesion.Applicants with a background or interest solely in natural resource management will be trained in wildland fire suppression. Equally, those with a background or interest solely in wildland fire suppression will be trained in natural resource management. Both applicants are encouraged to apply.The selected applicant must pass the arduous pack test that consists of a three (3) mile walk, carrying a forty-five (45) pound pack within forty-five (45) minutes as well as a pre-hire drug screening and background check. To see full Class Specifications visit: To Qualify: In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements: Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) NWCG Firefighter I qualified and graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of logging, construction, ranching, wildland firefighting, natural resource-related and/or physically active conservation-related experience, one year of which must have been supervising staff and/or inmate crews; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Notes Applicants are required to pass a physical agility test prior to appointment and as a condition for continuing employment. Possession of a Class B driver's license with air brake endorsement is required within one year and as a condition of continuing employment. Positions must pass a strict annual physical examination according to agency standards and to meet requirements of the provisions of the Heart/Lung Bills. All positions must obtain Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers (CPR & AED) American Heart Association certification during the probationary period and maintain certification as a condition of continuing employment. Special Requirements Possession of a valid driver's license is required at the time of application and as a condition of continuing employment.
