Summary Description: Responsible for working with operations, maintenance, staff functions, and Union Leadership to develop initiatives and programs promoting safe work practices and improvements. Lead and facilitate compliance with all applicable safety and health regulations.

Required Skills

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership to support and assist all levels of management in achieving the facility and corporate goals for reduction of work-related injuries. Zero injuries is our goal

  • Assist in planning and implementing programs and processes to maintain a workplace that meets or exceeds federal and state safety requirements

  • Coordinate Emergency Management Oversight including Emergency Responses and FM loss control

  • Location expert in safety and security matters including integration of Health & Safety Best Practices into the mill

  • Ensures a proactive approach to injury prevention

  • Support mill Manufacturing Excellence initiatives

  • Demonstrate Commitment Model leadership behaviors

  • Lead the mills Safety and Security departments

  • Provide oversight with Workers Compensation activities

  • Lead all safety training and ergonomic improvement initiatives

  • Oversee all contractor safety initiatives

  • Direct supervision of Health Services & Safety Advocates

  • Possess ambulatory capabilities to move around the mill, climb ladders, and catwalks

Required Experience

Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in safety engineering, industrial hygiene, or related field experience will be considered

  • Proven leadership with 5 years of demonstrated effectiveness in management role in an industrial safety environment

  • Demonstrated leadership in Process Safety Management program improvements

Required Competencies:

  • Effective communication and leadership skills as well as demonstrated abilities to champion change and influence others at all levels of the organization are required

  • Previous experience in a union environment with an excellent safety performance record is highly desired

  • Industrial Hygiene knowledge

  • Ability to give encouragement, guidance, and direction to improve safety performance

  • Ability to listen generously and practice open advocacy

  • Ability to inspire and guide others toward identifying and achieving vision and goals

Principal Duties and Responsibilities: * Provides leadership in the development and implementation of management systems necessary to ensure compliance with environmental, health and safety requirements affecting the plant facilities and to evaluate and ensure their effectiveness over time. * Responsible to provide support and leadership in corporate-wide projects and initiatives intended to advance the environmental, health and safety policies and priorities. * Helps in the support of plant operations in achieving the key results in safety, quality, productivity and cost, through the support of new equipment, continuous improvement and cost savings projects involving safety matters. Knowledge, Skill, and Ability Requirements: * Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience and education * 5-7 years' experience * Knowledge of EHS/OSHA requirements including wastewater and safety programs * Project management skills a plus * Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal * Strong organizational skills * Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite applications * Experience developing training materials * Experience working in a manufacturing environment * Experience in obtaining and/or maintaining VPP status All your information will be kept confidential according to EEO guidelines.
