Job Summary
The Safety Engineer is a new position to Vicor and will improve, develop, and implement safety standards, policies, practices and training to promote and improve industrial safety and health performance and ensure compliance. This position reports to the Senior Manager
Job Description
Improve and develop site safety procedures, processes and safety training materials.
Investigate any safety related incidents to determine root cause, develop and help implement corrective actions as appropriate.
Assist in the review of new and existing processes and materials to evaluate and determine appropriate safety measures.
Support overall EHS & Facilities functions.
Duties may be modified or assigned at any time to meet the needs of the business.
Selected Specific Tasks
Hazard Communication program maintenance including SDS management, training and procedure improvements. This includes support for manufacturing, laboratories, engineering and facilities.
Electrical Safety program coordination for manufacturing operations, facilities and engineering. Provide and/or coordinate training, PPE assessments, documentation and procedure development and other duties as assigned.
Lock Out/Tag Out program maintenance including training, assessments, documentation review, etc.
Hazardous Waste Operations/Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) including the Respiratory Protection Program - coordinate and implement the procedures, maintenance, training and refreshers, maintain onsite PPE, spill carts and materials.
Accident, Illness and Injury program maintenance including investigations, documentation, follow-up and maintenance of logs.
General knowledge of other programs is beneficial including cranes and hoists, powered industrial trucks, walking and working surfaces, machine guarding, hearing conservation, industrial hygiene and sampling practices, safe lifting, confined space entry and radiation safety.
Education / Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Health and Safety discipline or related disciplines preferred (e.g., engineering or science)
2-5 years' experience in a manufacturing, engineering, or safety environment preferred
Understanding of applicable federal and state regulations including OSHA, MA Department of Safety and NFPA
Advanced written, verbal and presentation communication skills.
Ability to successfully train and interact with personnel of all educational backgrounds.
Ability to understand, analyze, and resolve technical problems and work independently and effectively in a dynamic environment.
Coordinate and participate on Vicor's First Aid team.
Ability to support a multi-shift operation and participate on the facility's emergency management team.
Proficient in using Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Possesses a balanced sensitivity to safety, employee concerns, and business needs.
Work is performed in a combination of office and manufacturing environments.
