Responsibilities
POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Safety Supervisor, the Safety Assistant provides clerical support to the safety department and is responsible for assisting with training and orientation sessions as well as written materials review. Strong emphasis of job duties will entail scheduling and executing training and general safety functions for the evening and night shift plant employees.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Monitor and analyze data such as, safety inspections, incident investigations, safety incentive program, incident rates, etc and maintain associated files.
Perform safety audits and inspections as directed by the safety manager.
Assist with investigation of unsafe acts/conditions, ergonomic incidents, and injuries.
Present and train safety-related subjects according to a calendar and in accordance with regulatory and MFI guidelines.
Manage PPE including issuance, inventory levels, and usage
Support SRMP team leaders with document storage, proofreading, document linking, etc.
Act as liaison between plant employees, leadership, vendors, etc. when Safety Supervisor is unavailable
Manage SDS binder and chemical inventory
Complete and document fire extinguisher, AED, and first-aid kit checks in office and lobby areas
Support SRMP process; facilitate steering team meetings, answer questions, verify element team meetings are occurring, validate documents in linking tool
Create promotional safety posters and signage and post
Order safety supplies as needed
Complete work order requests as needed
Manage plant training calendar including venue, scheduling, materials, etc.; analyze and maintain training records for compliance
Collaborate with supervisors, managers, outside contractors, and maintenance personnel on capital improvement projects to ensure work is completed safely.
Compile data and generate reports for plant and corporate weekly and monthly reporting; data entry, verify data and distribute reports to appropriate parties.
Adhere to safe work practices, follow GMP's, maintain sanitary conditions and ensure that product quality is maintained.
Report to management any conditions or practices that may adversely affect food safety, food quality or personnel
Follow MFI Safety Policies as well as OSHA regulations to enforce safe work practices.
Responsible for Food Safety and Food Quality of MFI products.

Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Associate's degree (AA) or equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience (e. general safety, HR, business, etc.) preferred.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Have a good understanding of OSHA and other regulatory health & safety standards.
Proficient in presentation and public speaking including the use of audio/visual equipment.
PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
Ability to work well with all levels of the organization (be a team player).
Strong attention to detail.
Ability to solve fairly complex problems and manage multiple tasks.
Certification in First Aid/CPR/AED or First Responder preferred.
Some applicable experience in a risk management environment preferred.
Ability to facilitate meetings and provide training to all levels of employee.
Must be able to travel to other MFEPC locations to perform safety audits.
Must be willing to work flexible hours and shifts. This position will be primarily a second (evening) shift role with the flexibility needed to attend day time or night shift activities periodically.
Must have the ability to work independently, establish priorities and accomplish objectives with minimal supervision.
Bi-lingual Spanish is strongly preferred.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
OSHA 30 hour trainer authorization strongly preferred.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to speak effectively before groups, customers/vendors or employees of the organization.
In order to promote a manufacturing environment that is safe and efficient for both personnel and food, the ability to effectively communicate in basic English (both verbal and written) is required. This includes the ability to speak, read and comprehend safety instructions, rules and warnings for self and others in both normal and emergency situations.
